Crowning My Dad for an Early Father’s Day #CrownYourFather Thursday 15 June, 2017

Father’s Day is this weekend and guess what? I wont be here, so I decide to take my wonderful dad out for an early Father’s Day celebration. Ironically I will be leaving on actual Father’s Day, so pre-celebrating was a must. I feel like sometimes Moms get all the glory on Mother’s Day, but I am a total Daddy’s girl and this year I wanted to think outside the box and celebrate with him and do something unique. Its the middle of the week but my dad and I are pretty much foodies, so I wanted to take him to an out of the box dining experience. I dont think I ever did hibachi with my dad so I took him to a cool Japanese hibachi restaurant in Buckhead called Nakato for our outing. I made this outing a little more special because we even Uber’ed to the spot. His first roundtrip uber. He is old school, he thought ride sharing programs were weird, but taking a uber to Nakato he realize quickly the convenience and even technological perks of using the service.

I didn’t tell him our entire uber ride where we were going until we got to the spot. It was a nice surprise as he said he hasn’t done hibachi in years. Let me tell you something about my dad he is a simple guy. If he could he would eat at the same few places over and over again with no issues but I had to take him out of his foodie comfort zone. Great thing he loves Japanese food and excited to try Nakato’s hibachi dinner.

My dad and I at the hibachi dinner at Nakato

I told him it was my full treat and to get whatever he wants. I had to treat him like the king he is. He is I grateful and even making sure it was ok to get certain food. I said dont count my pennies just order. That’s just him he is always doing, paying and treating other people. I think he just isnt used to me saying get whatever you want at a somewhat upscale place. He is always doing something kind and supportive for me so I was honor to let him order whatever he liked.

Hibachi spots you always start off with a miso soup and a ginger salad. I got the shrimp tempura roll as an appetizer and my dad got calamari.

After the apps the mini show starts with the hibachi chef. I love hibachi spots because they try to make it entertaining. There were many times the flames got high and threw us all off for a second. It was fun to watch this and laugh about the little tricks here and there.

My dad and I both order the chicken and shrimp hibachi dinner. It was so much food. My dad was trying to eat it all but realize he got more full than he expected. He was so happy for his meal and was fully stuffed. He kept saying how amazing this place was and so much so we decided we are going to have a big celebration party for my brother’s 30th birthday. My brother is autistic but he is very much into anime and the Japanese culture and  food. We will definitely be back to treat my brother as a family.

This was an amazing dinner. I am still kind of sad I am actually not going to be in town for actual Father’s Day but my ad truly enjoyed our little outting. Makes me think I owe him this kind of treatment more often. I treated my dad like a king for a day but Father’s Day really is everyday for him. We talk, laugh, have deep conversations every day. We are really close and I couldn’t of asked for a better father in life. He is truly a king and well deserving of the royal treatment.

Speaking of Royal Treatment I made my dad his own digital self-portrait of himself as a distinguished vintage king by Crown Royal. My Dad is going to laugh at this so hard once he see this super caricature digital photo of himself. It was cute to create and you can do one too for your dad at CrownYourFather.com. Treat your dad to royalty by taking him out, making him this creative photo and hey if he is a whiskey drinker, get him some Crown Royal to really put him on that pedestal he deserves.

This year we’re having a Fathers Day brunch at our church. We have several fathers who have kids who live quite faraway and wanted to make sure each one had a memorable day. Our kids ministry made cards for all the dads at our church and we will hand them out along with a small gift for each of the dads.

  • Yummy! What a wonderful place to take your dad for Father’s Day! I am a huge fan of Japanese and Chinese foods, and my dad was too! That’s awesome that you took him out since you won’t be here this weekend. My dad passed a few years ago, and I’d do anything to be able to take him out for Father’s Day! At first, each Father’s Day was so hard, but now I look at it as one more day I can use to remember him, appreciate him and honor him for all he did for my sister and I!

What a fun and special way to spend Father’s Day with your dad! I’m sure he loved it!

  • I love hibachi! It looks like you and your dad had a great time. That picture is too funny! I’ll bet he loved that.

The food looks amazing. I love places where they cook right in front of you. And the crowning dad idea is so fun!

  • Sarah Bailey says:

Oh yum this looks like the perfect place to grab a bite to eat, my Mum is away this weekend so we are going to take my Dad out for a meal at some point, when he has a spare moment.

  • Aww! This is such a sweet post – your Dad really sounds like a fantastic guy!! And that food — talk about YUM!! We enjoy Japanese/hibachi, too. Unfortunately, my father is not a part of my life but I will be treating my husband this weekend. He stepped in from the time my boys were 2 1/2 and 6 months and never once looked back. He is an amazing father and I can’t wait to celebrate with some sea-side food when we go to my stepdaughter’s high school graduation in Virginia this weekend. He was based in Norfolk while in the Navy and I have a few of his favorite places from when he lived there on our list for visiting.

  • What a wonderful article! That pic of you two is beautiful too! Being kind to others is the only thing that we can do to give our life meaning. I love it when I see people loving on others. I’m sorry that you cannot be with him on Father’s Day. But, it looks like you’ve well made up for it!

So awesome to be able to spend time with your dad, I’m sure he is very appreciative to you for spending time! My father is no longer with us and boy do I miss him. If I could spend one more day with him on Father’s Day, I’ll hug him more, kiss him more , and just cherish the moment of laughter, joy , and fun!

A special dad deserves to be pampered on Father’s Day. Bringing your dad to this restaurant was a fabulous idea. I love when they cook in front of you and engage with you. We are going to pamper my other half with gifts, breakfast in bed and let him be for the day to relax.

  • Pam says:

How great that you were able to treat your dad to such a tasty meal for Father’s Day. I think it’s great that he enjoyed it so much and it’s really sweet of him to already be thinking of bringing your brother for his birthday.

Awww .. this made me smile! What a fun date with your dad. I’ve never been to a Hibachi spot, but am going to seek one out in our area. Everything looks so good. I’d love to try miso soup, ginger salad, along with the chicken and shrimp hibachi. Yum!

This sounds like a great place to take dad to dinner for father’s day. I love the idea of using the Crown Royal for the vintage king self portrait. This is something my dad would indeed love. Thanks for sharing the gift idea.

  • My Teen Guide says:

We love dining in Japanese restaurants. The Hibachi chefs are really talented and their antics make waiting for your food worthwhile. I am happy you were able to spend time with your dad.

  • I would love to live closer to my dad so I could take him out to dinner and spend more time with him. I only see him a couple of times a year when I travel to Guatemala. Those vintage king portraits from Crown Royale are hilarious!

  • Daria says:

I love to watch them in action. It’s good you still have your father here and take time to spend with him. Life is short. Treasure why you can. Thanks for sharing!

  • Mimi Green says:

This was a cute way to celebrate Father’s Day with just the two of you. I love hibachi, I don’t get to go very often. I never finished my food but it makes for great leftovers.

  • Heather says:

We love hibachi / sushi places! It’s so nice to have options when not everyone in the family eats sushi. It looks like you all had a great time. I love that digital portrait – so cute 🙂

  • Jeanette says:

We kept Father’s Day quiet low-key this year. We each got him a card and a gift and then we went out for some Jamba Juice in the afternoon. He had a steak dinner with grilled corn and twice baked potatoes. I think we did a good job spoiling him and I think you did a wonderful job also.

  • Tamara says:

I can definitely get down with starting my meal with miso soup and ginger salad. YUM. It looks like you guys had a great time. Your dad must have felt so loved. He looks so happy in the photos. I wish I lived closer to my dad, because I would love to surprise him with a spontaneous night out to dinner.

  • Zwitsal says:

Happy Late Father’s Day to your Dad! I wish I knew my real father too, so I can greet him every year! 🙂 I just always pray, that I’m thankful no matter what they’ve made the decision to give me up. I’m sure they cannot give the best for me.

  • Angelic Sinova says:

How lovely! I hope your dad (and all the dads out there) had an amazing Father’s Day! Shrimp tempura roll (with avocado) is my go-to sushi choice as well!

  • Cheryl says:

I love that you “crowned” your dad! And it’s funny, my dad is the same way with Uber. I love introducing him to new or revisiting old foods too. They can get stuck in a rut!

  • Andrew says:

I don’t know what I love more: the amazingly delicious looking food (I LOOOVE hibachi) or the hilarious digital photo!! I totally need to do that for me… I mean, uh, my dad! Looks like you guys had a total blast!

  • Kim says:

That’s such a cool thing to do with the Crown Royal app. Plus, the food at that restaurant looks really good.

  • MY dad also loves going to places like this and my mom especially enjoys it. I bet I could take her there and never buy her another gift besides trips there and she would be happy. She loves some kind of white sauce they put on her noodles, I do not know what it is called but it is her favorite.

  • Maurene Cab says:

Daddies are really the best people in the world. They sacrificed a lot. Your father deserves this treatment. 🙂

  • Neha Saini says:

This was so cool you took your dad to a really nice place. Nothing can be better than this place. I liked that you crowned your dad and those digital pictures. It was all a perfect celebration and honor.

  • What a special treat to the king! My husband would love that place because of sushi. In fact, we went to a sushi place on Father’s day lol.

  • Dogvills says:

You are such a sweet daughter. I am sure your father enjoyed the treat. My dad loves Asian cuisine too. I will take him to one next weekend.

  • Annemarie LeBlanc says:

Love the restaurant you took your dad to. I love Asian cuisine. It is just so flavorful. The Hibachi/Teppanyaki chef looks so serious. Haha. Happy Father’s day to your dad! Indeed, he raised a really sweet daughter.

  • Ty says:

Looks like you and your dad had a great time. My dad lives out of state so I didn’t get to celebrate with him but I do like the idea of “Crowning” my dad. I’m going to try it.

  • Tami says:

Awe, what a way to celebrate your dad. My ornery dad won’t let me treat him to dinner. He always backs out of it or pays for it before I can grab the ticket.

  • Amanda Love says:

This made me miss my dad so much. I’m glad you both had a great time and it seems like you chose the perfect restaurant to celebrate Father’s Day! That’s a cool creation!
