Driving to Afro Punk Atlanta in Style featuring Miguel, Willow Smith and Solange Tuesday 31 October, 2017

I am so excited share my 1st Afro Punk experience in Atlanta! I have been wanting to go for years and so excited that I actually got a chance to attend this amazing one-of-a-kind concert festival. If you aren’t familiar with Afro Punk its a musical festival like no other. Its all about being free, creative, spacey, letting go of any inhibitions on self creativity and expression. Its a music festival dedicated to the cool kids and music that is eclectic and diverse. There is an array of performers mostly people of the alternative music genre, which is special because in African American culture we aren’t really known for indulging in punk rock/alternative sounds.

The big thing about Afro Punk besides the music is the fashion! OMG if you want to get your fashion life you have to attend. I had no idea I was going to Afro Punk until I attending Toyota Green Initiative Green Eats and Dope Beats event, so I was mildly unprepared. Forget Halloween or any big Cosplay national event…this is all about going all out on you own. Well I had to do something, I went to my new favorite vintage spot in town, Kiwi Vintage, and found my theme fashion and went with it.

I went with the Retro Cowgirl from the Future look. I love this top with the fringe and detailing. The acid wash skit was also perfect for this look. I put my platnium blonde locs in two space buns for the extra flair. I didn’t do my face garb until I got to the event but I think I did well for my 1st Afro Punk fashion choice. Thanks to Kiwi Vintage again for the cute outfit.

Now I had to get to Afro Punk for two days! I was able to cruise to both weekend days in the new 2017 Toyota Corolla iM! Isnt this such a pretty blue? I loved it and it definitely was an eye-catcher as I was riding around town for the concert activities. The 2017 Toyota Corolla iM gave the versatility and performance in one incredibly stylish package. Its aggressive body kit isloaded with attitude, making for a ride that refuses to be ignored. A blackhoneycomb grille, body-colored spoiler and chrome-tipped exhaust show off this hatchback’s sporty side. I  was ready to  go places in this Electric Stom Blue color beauty.

Miguel

Miguel was the Day One headliner for Afro Punk. He is such an R&B Rockstar. A beautiful sultry voice, high energy, charisma and dang he is a cutie. I loved his set! He is a ball of positive vibes and yes sex appeal for sure.

Willow Smith

Willow Smith, the daughter of Will & Jada Smith had her own set on Day Two of Afro Punk. She is all grown up and has a rockstar vibe to her. She did perform her breakout hit “Whip My Hair” but in a hard rock style. She is definitely following in her mother’s musical footsteps.

Speaking of Mother, Jada surprised everyone and not only came on stage with Willow but performed a song with her. Jada was in her own rockband, Wicked Wisdom and she definitely passed down he musical influence to Willow. Jada is also filming a new movie, Night School, in Atlanta so stay tuned for that soon.

Solange

The highlight of my Afro Punk experience was definitely Solange. Definitely more than someone labeled as Beyonce’s sister, Solange has her own lane and flow. A Seat At The Table is her amazing album that broke records and she performed with so much grace. She is a mixed of modern and a little retro disco/80s flair. She is R&B with sultry flow. Love her. A melodic set  but filled with lots of free spirited choreography.

Solange set was almost like watching a musical stage play take form. Very graceful and melodically and visually stunning.  I love Solo!

This is me during the concert. As you can see I added my Afro-centric makeup. Look truth be told I used my eyeliner as my cultural artwork on my face. I worked with what I had. I think I did a good job with my mininalist face work. I did it for the culture? I felt like I was in future Africa. Seriously!

I had a blast during Afro Punk. As a title sponsor of Afro Punk, Toyota thank you for letting me drive around in style. This 2017 Toyota Corolla iM is amazing and the smart technology gave this Retro Cowgirl of the Future the best vibes for the ride.

What Do You Think of My Afro Punk Style?
