Marvel’s Black Panther Movie Review and Why Its a Must-See! (Spoiler Free) Tuesday 06 February, 2018

This is the moment you all have been waiting for and it’s my official honest review on Marvel’s Black Panther. I have been talking about it for months, I got selected by Disney to cover the celebrity carpet and global screening as well as some interviews, which will all be coming up soon on the blog. I already knew I would like this movie before I saw it, but now you can read why I feel this way.

This is the first Marvel all-black cast superhero film, just in time for Black History month, and what a historical movie Black Panther will be!  Check out the trailer and synopsis below and then read more into my top stand out reason to go see the film!

Official Trailer

Marvel Studios’ BLACK PANTHER follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of BlackPanther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

My Top Stand Out Reasons To See Black Panther

The portrayal of Wakanda is beautiful – I think the world has a perception of African, yes even in 2018 and its time to stop acting like the largest continent on the planet is just filled with famine and sadness. Well Black Panther shows you the royal roots that Africa’s essence truly is. Even though Wakanda is a fictional African nation, it showed a lot of African culture from the fashion, traditions, principles and more. I felt a true connection of an African nation and I believe this movie will pivot the way many of the world should view Africa. Especially for African Americans, sometimes it seems like we are disconnected to the continent, and there are messages in the film that slightly address this. Africa is beautiful and Black Panther and the Wakanda nation will make you truly feel a better visual of the continent. Basically Black Panther is the poster movie for #MakeAfricaGreatAgain!

The Women in the Film Kick-Ass (literally) – So this movie talks about Kings, Queens and princesses. Disney princesses are always shown girly, poised, and in search for their prince. The princess in this film is the anti-princess to say the least.

T’Challa’s sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright), is more than just her birthright title. She is a freaking scientist. She is the princess of the future. She is creating futuristic and amour protecting clothing, using the latest technology to heal the body without surgery and more. And she is pretty funny too.

Lupita’s character, Nakia, is the anti-Queen more like a spy. Once again in most movie, women who are seeking the Queen title are patiently awaiting their King to come find them. Nakia doesn’t have time for that, she actually rather kick butt than to kiss the Kings butt. She is a powerful leader, she shows a lot of strength and strong morals. Pretty but she plays no game. I love that because most people think pretty means pedestal. Not Nakia!

O’koyo is one of my favorite characters in this film. She is neither a princess or Queen, she is a warrior in its truest form. Usually when people think of warriors you automatically assume a male. Nope, Black Panther changes the game some of the most bad-ass warriors in this movie are women! O’Koyo is very strong, determined, and the epitome of someone who will fight for their country no matter what. She even kicks ass in heels!

The Finest Villain in the World – Just heads up, Michael B. Jordan character is the bad guy in this film but bad never looked so good! Like really good! I thought he was fine in Creed – he topped it in Black Panther. I know I know this section is me gushing and being very shallow, what does this have to do with his character. Look sometimes women when we see action movies, its just kill, destroy and defeat! Why can’t we watch an action movie and have some eye candy too! You will definitely get all the eye-candy yumminesss from Erik Killmonger.

I also love his character storyline. As it builds up, you actually understand why he became the way he did. Now this isn’t me being bias about his looks, but I promise this is the first time in my life I was low-key rooting for the villain!

Visual Effect are Everything – So what is amazing about this film is that it is set in the present but somewhat of the near future. Look forget the Jetson era we are supposed to be living in, we all should be living in the Wakanda era! Wakanda has some of the best technology and advancement in the world which made for great visual effects. I was visually stiumlated the entire movie, because the tech in this movie was so out of this world. It was brillant and it all came together amazingly.

Also Black Panther was filmed in Atlanta, so it was amazing to see how they turned Atlanta into Wakanda. The details were crazy, I am from Atlanta and I basically started to forget that Wakanda was a fictional location and it was filmed in my city. I also love all of the Afro-futurism visuals, definitely the costumes were above and beyond detailed. The costumes were some of the best designs I ever seen.  I can see if things go well it could be a true trend, possibly.

As an African American woman this movie did something for my spirit. I already want to get back in touch with my African roots and this movie gave me so much pride in doing so. Also, if you are not African American this movie will still do something to your spirit. It is about the message. The storyline and the strength of a royal family and the pride in a country. Look America can learn a thing or two from Wakanda in the pride department. These people truly love their country and everything it stands for. I think anyone who watches this would resonate and would love to be prideful about the place they are from. I do like being American, but I kinda wish Wakanda was real so I can become a citizen! #WakandaForever

Seriously go see the film. I am more than likely going to see it multiple times, it was that worthy! Also, rule of thumb for any Marvel movie, stay for the end credits!!
