SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGIES I LEARNED FROM DISNEY SOCIAL MEDIA MOMS CELEBRATION | #DisneySMMC Monday 18 September, 2017

I am excited to share this post with you all as I was invited by Disney to attend the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration Tour in Atlanta recently. I know I know guys, Kiwi you don’t have any kids? How did you get invited to a Disney Social Media Moms Celebration event? Truthfully I really don’t know the answer to that, but it is Disney and you DO NOT turn down a private Disney event invite ever.

I’m just grateful that little old childless me was invited for such an event. I have heard so many of my blogger friends over the past few years squeal in excitement when they get chosen by Disney to be apart of Disney Social Media Moms (#DisneySMM) for the year. Its called getting pixie dust when you get that glorious email, where Disney picks several hand-picked blogger moms from all over the nation to be apart of this elite Disney group. I’ve always said I can’t wait to have kids so I can cross my fingers and hope to get selected for the  year.

The Disney Social Media Moms on the The Road tour was a small scale of this. You do not have to be a Disney Social Media Mom to attend, but several current and previous Disney moms were in attendance, as well as hopefully moms for present for this special conference. It was a cute Disney curated conference that was short but gave a lot of info on all of the new Disney attractions, current programs, and special guest to talk about modern social strategies and special guest appearances to make this all fun!

Kim Fields (actress; Facts of Life, Living Single)

Kim Fields was a special guest to the Atlanta audience, as she is a local but also a mom who gave some fun insights on motherhood. Loved her quote she told the moms to let their daughters know, “You may be a Disney princess, but tell them to remember Momma is the Queen!”

So exciting to see guest appearances from Princess Tiana. Isn’t she beautiful??! I was so excited like I was a little girl to meet her.

Another big kid moment. I got a chance to meet Mr.Mickey Mouse himself! Ok my life was made, I got a photo ops with Mickey! Welcome to Atlanta!

But on top of the photo ops and fun guest appearances from the event, I want to share some cool social media tips and information Disney share with us that will help writers and influence stay abreast with the media trends going on currently.  Social media and tech is always changing, but its great Disney is always taking notes and being relevant to what going on to enhance their brand. These tips can also help you get chosen to possibly be a future Disney Social Media Mom or invited to future Disney press events too!

Video Is HOT!

  • 85% of the US Internet audience watches videos online.
  • The average user spends 88% more time on a website with video.
  • More than 500 million hours of video is watched on Youtube daily.
  • Viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video to 10% when reading it in a text.
  • More than 50% of video content is viewed on mobile.
  • Facebook Live is watched 3x Longer than a regular video.

Helpful Tips & Tricks

  • increase engagement- go native with video
  • size matters – optimize for viewing (1:1)
  • sound-off – captions and on screen graphics
  • add text to a visual to help character limits
  • evoke emotion
  • using the word “video” in an email subject line boosts open rates by 19% and click through rates by 65%
  • choose quality over quantity

How To Write Unique Stories For Disney

This information is really helpful for bloggers and influencers such as myself who want to do more travel articles about Disney, their theme-parks and more!

  1. Storytelling and Emotion
  2. Find a Subject You Are Passionate About
  3. Be curious, learn and experiment
  4. Let Your Content Reflect Your Personality
  5. Be Authentic not Perfect
  6. Play Makes Your Storytelling Fun
  7. Push Yourself As a Priority and Leave Your Comfort Zone
  8. Enjoy the Ride (Figuratively and Literally)

Again it was an honor to be invited by Disney for their Disney Social Media Moms Celebration on the Road conference tour. I am not yet a mom as you all know, but did you know there is a Disney coined name for people like me? AWKs (Adults Without Kids). I am a proud AWK for now, which all it means I still enjoy the wonders of Disney sans kids…aka I am a BIG KID. Trust me there are many AWKs out there and we need to be embraced more. Disney is a brand that transcends age, sex, color and all demographics and so happy it is such an inclusive longevity company to do so. So whether you are a mom or a AWK like me, I hope you learn some great social media info from Disney like I did.

AWK is Life (or until I have kids of my own). Thank you Disney for the wonderful conference. I learned a lot and I am forever loyal to this brand. I am looking forward to visiting the park soon for myself on a possible upcoming travel trip and of course continue to indulge in all the Disney magic with their movies as well!
