 Best Kept Secret

bartaco (Midtown Atlanta location)

taco-tour-bar-taco-atlanta-1

bartaco is a trendy taco spot, which is amazing for its array of Mexican cuisine. The ambiance is very plush and modern but gives you a relax vibes and it is one of my favorite taco chill spots. This place is very social media friendly with the perfect outdoor patio and they have created a fun lifestyle brand.

Lets get to the secret. The secret is they have a secret menu! Wow I have been coming here for a while and I just discovered this. You hear of these fast food chains with secret menus but when was the last time you been to an actual restaurant with secret menu options? So you have to ask for their #bartacosecret taco. The one pictured is the pulled pork taco option. It changes sporadically.

taco-tour-bar-taco-atlanta-3

I really also love this spot because its one of the FEW places in Atlanta that serves Mexican street corn. I have no idea why Atlanta spots doesn’t serve this one their menus more often but trust me it is hard to find. bartaco has it on its menu, no secret its on there. I highly recommend you try Mexican street corn, it is way better than regular corn. Just trust me on the flavors and experience!

bartaco is also know for their hand crafted specialty cocktails. I love how they take the time to adorn each one with a special garnish. The cocktails shown are the port chester reviver (martin miller’s gin + cucumber + mint + mango nectar + lime juice) sanguina (hibiscus infused tequila + blood orange + lime + ginger agave syrup) and the #bartacosecret drink.

The all-new custom cocktail is the bartaco Chai Mezcalita—smoky mezcal, bartaco branded Libélula tequila, house-made chai syrup, fresh lime juice, a pinch of salt, and star anise garnish—it’s a mezcal margarita with a chai twist! They serve it to you similar like the secret taco on a personalized stamped tray with their hashtag #bartacosecret. The presentation of this drink is amazing as it has the actual star anise root garnish on top and the flavor was amazing. Please visit and ask for this drink but definitely take a shot for social media!

Best Place to Get a Paloma

Superica (Buckhead Location)

taco-tour-superica-atlanta-4

Now I know we are talking tacos, but you can’t have a taco without washing it down with a great drink! Superica is a spot where they specialize in authentic Paloma cocktails. The paloma is a tequila-based cocktail. This drink is most commonly prepared by mixing tequila with a grapefruit-flavored soda such as Fresca, Squirt, or Jarritos and served on the rocks with a lime wedge.  Paloma means “dove” in Spanish, and it’s suspected that Corona named the cocktail after the popular folk song “La Paloma” from the 1860s.

Superica serve theirs with the retro bottled Squirt lemon-lime soda. Although in America we highly value a good margarita, truth be told in Mexico Palomas are pretty popular. Its a very refreshing drink or as they say in Mexico refresco.

We also indulged in a few tacos and burritos. The shrimp tacos are good and is what I would recommend.

Best Rooftop & Late Night HangOut Spot for Tacos

Rock N’ Taco (Buckhead)

taco-tour-rock-n-taco-atlanta-2

Rock N Taco is a great themed taco hangout spot! I love the name of this spot. It is definitely the place where a rockstar would dine to get a taco! In the heart of Buckhead its an enjoyable atmosphere with an amazing rooftop of the city. It also stays open pretty late, so if you need an after midnight craving for tacos in the city this is the spot!

taco-tour-rock-n-taco-atlanta-1 We tried an array of tacos. I have to share with you my two favorites. The Cluck and the Tuna Poke Taco. Hands down The Cluck  taco was the best taco on the menu. The Cluck is made with Buttermilk fried chicken with queso, lettuce and roasted tomato chutney. If you love fried chicken and you love tacos, bam love on your tastebuds! Its one of the most popular menu items, and I can’t deny why this is so. A complete winner.

The Tuna Poke is Ahi tuna, egg roll skin, seaweed salad, and orange wasabi, served on a wonton shell. I think tuna poke meals are getting real popular so excited this was transformed into a taco here. Rock out with your taco out at Rock N Taco!

Best Taco Asian Fusion Spot

Takorea (Midtown Location)

taco-tour-takorea-atlanta-1

Takorea is in the heart of Midtown Atlanta that specializes in Asian-Mexican fusion dishes. I love a great fusion foodie place and glad I discovered this spot. So you will not get a traditional Mexican food experience, but that is what makes this spot fun. It is set up in a rustic steampunk style establishment, with lots of open windows and a relaxed environment.

taco-tour-takorea-atlanta-2

They serve takos here (not tacos) and every Tuesday is Tako Tuesday where you can get your takos for $2! Score for the $2 takos! The best tacos, excuse me takos here to get is the KFC. Yes sounds like a popular fast food chain made into a taco, but no its way better.

The KFC tako is made with Korean fried chicken, chipotle aioli, jack cheese. Just amazing, another spot with fried chicken except it is made with a Korean twist.

taco-tour-takorea-atlanta-3 If you get any apps please get the Sticky Chicky and the Kimchi Rice. These appetizers will really give you the Asian flavor with your takos! Sticky Chicky is Crispy chicken bits tossed with red onions, jalapeño and apricot glazed. Kimchi Fried includes Rice, Kimchi and spicy Korean red pepper sauce.

taco-tour-takorea-atlanta-4

I love a great sangria and Takorea serves some great ones with amazing fruit garnishes!

Best Taste of Mexico

Mexcalitos Cantina

taco-tour-mezcalitos-cantina-atlanta-1

What a cute gem in the city as we went to Mezcalitos Cantina. Many places claim to have authentic Mexican cuisine but this literally taste like I stepped into Mexico. The flavors were amazing and really enjoyed the experience here because the menu had a true Latin flare.

taco-tour-mezcalitos-cantina-atlanta-2

taco-tour-mezcalitos-cantina-atlanta-3

Tamales are what I love about this place. Atlanta again is interesting when it comes to actual Mexican cuisine dishes being added to the menu. tamale (Spanish: tamal, Nahuatl: tamalli) is a traditional Mesoamerican dish made of masa or dough (starchy, and usually corn-based), which is steamed in a corn husk. Tamales are so hard to find in the city, so if you are familiar with this dish you will be happy to know its at this location. If you never had it please order this, I promise you that your belly will be happy!

taco-tour-mezcalitos-cantina-atlanta-4 I want to do a happy dance with this drink! This is the Basil Margarita. It was one of the most flavorful margaritas I ever had. Mezcalitos Cantina specializes in their hand crafted and all natural cocktails. Nothing is made with flavor syrup or preservatives and my tastebuds could tell. If you love a really refreshing drink with fresh chopped basil and mint this is the drink for you. I know some people do not like leaves in their drinks, but try this one.

*FYI please do not confuse this with their sister location, Mezcalitos Cocina, which is in the Grant Park area of Atlanta.
