{Event Recap} The 23rd Annual Trumpet Awards for TV One Thursday 29 January, 2015
This past weekend I was able to attend the 23rd Annual Trumpet Awards as a media corespondent. This is actually my second year attending, but this year I actually got to see the ceremony, so indeed this is my first official award show seating. I was able to snap celebrities, honorees, VIPs and sponsors that walk the Trumpet Awards Red Carpet. The awards ceremony is the highlight of the foundation’s many events that salute and honor African-American achievement. The awards ceremony features celebrity presenters introducing the 2015 honorees and live performances from some of the most talented entertainers in the business. The Trumpet Awards is a prestigious event highlighting African American accomplishments and contributions. Initiated in 1993 by Turner Broadcasting, the Trumpet Awards has been televised annually and distributed internationally to over 185 countries around the world.
Xernona Clayton Founder, President and CEO of the Trumpet Awards Foundation, Inc. and Creator and Executive Producer of the Foundation’s Trumpet Awards.
Clayton, a former aide to the late, legendary Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement, was joined on the red carpet at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in suburban Atlanta by the likes of Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx, Janelle Monae, Academy Award-nominated actress Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) Nauturi Naughton, Claudia Jordan, Roland Martin of TV One, TV One and Radio One founder Cathy Hughes, Academy Award-winning actor Lou Gossett Jr. and many others. Corporate support helps to make the production of the Trumpet Awards possible and help provide scholarships to the numerous students in their educational pursuits. Some of the major corporate sponsors include: The Coca-Cola Company, General Motors, Nordstrom, The Home Depot, FedEx, Southwest Airlines, American Family Insurance and more.
