Event Recap | Preachers of Atlanta Wednesday 03 February, 2016
Atlanta’s tastemakers and influencers all came out to walk the purple carpet at the premiere of Oxygen’s latest, “Preachers” series, “Preachers of Atlanta.” held at 595 North. The event was hosted by Willie Moore, Jr. of the nationally syndicated Willie Moore Jr. Show on Atlanta’s Praise 102.5 and featured an extended trailer and exclusive clips of Grammy Award-Winner Le’Andria Johnson, Pastor Canton Jones, Pastor Kim Jones-Pothier, Pastor Corey Hambrick, and Pastor Judah Swilley. Oxygen and NBC Universal honored Elite Sisterhood, a local non-profit peer mentoring program for women, with a donation of $10,000 for their commitment to the Atlanta community. Attendees also enjoyed specialty mocktails, hor’ dourves and riveting live performances from cast members Le’Andria, Canton and Judah to celebrate Oxygen’s new Preachers of Atlanta series. I’ve covered the Preacher’s of LA series here and here…and of course now the franchise has migrated to Atlanta!

I live in Atlanta and I will be honest I didnt know any of these people were preachers before the media release of Preachers of Atlanta coming here. We are the home of the mega churches and famous pastors, but surprisingly these aren’t the biggest names of preachers. The only one I knew of by name and face is Canton Jones, who is also a gospel rappers and has his own show on Praise 95.1 every Saturday. As you can see the cast is very diverse, and includes female pastors as well which is refreshing!

What’s another treat for the Atlanta preachers are that they are multi-talented. Pastor Le’Andria sang a beautiful gospel song that had us all moved in the room. Very powerful!
Pastor + Gospel Artist Canton Jones
I’ve known about (Pastor) Canton Jones for years and enjoy his music. He has a hip-hop approach to gospel, making it modern and appealing to the youth to get his message across. I am still shocked he is a pastor and is on this show…that is going to be real interesting.

Now here is something shocking! While Canton Jones was performing, Pastor Judah was right beside him and broke out into his own gospel rap verse. Everyone in the room jaws dropped because it was very unexpected. He is a rapper too? Crazy part is, he was actually really good! The Macklemore of the pulpit I guess lol.
This is my 3rd premiere outing for the Oxygen Network “Preachers of…” series. They were in LA, Detroit, and now the infamous reality city of Atlanta. At the screening we didn’t get a chance to see a full episode so I have no real words on what to expect from the show! You know I say this every event recap, I don’t know how I feel about the portrayal of preachers being on reality television. Now from the looks of it, it doesn’t seem like the Atlanta franchise is exploiting the materialism of wealth as the other locations…so maybe this will be a different twist. I’m not sure, I hope I am right. I hope this finally does reality tv justice in the spiritual realm and actually producing good reality show, especially in Atlanta. This city has enough bad “reality” show exploiting this town to where we all get blame for these “stars” actions.

I honestly can’t tell you the last time I’ve watched a reality show. I guess this is a “good” show if it’s about preachers and their lives as a preacher. I loved your recap. I felt as though I were there.
This looks like an amazing show. I had no idea they came to Detroit. I am going to have to check them out and see if I can find some YouTube vids to listen.

I don’t even know what is left to make a reality show out of at this point. This is just too much for me, but there must be a market for it or they wouldn’t keep churning them out. At least they cancelled Honey Boo Boo – they did, right?

I have never actually heard of the show. But I’m not a really big reality TV watcher either. I’ll have to check into it.
Oh my! I have never heard of this show before. I am going to see if we can find it on Kodi. and watch a couple of episodes and see what I think.

I didn’t know Canton Jones ore Le’Andria were pastors. News to me. I watched the L.A. version. I might check this one out too.
