Come on Barbie, Let’s Go Party! : Atlanta’s Exclusive Pre-Reception Party and ‘Barbie’ Movie Review Friday 21 July, 2023

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the pre-reception and screening of the highly anticipated ‘Barbie’ movie in Atlanta. Being known as Rooftop Barbie, it was only fitting that I be present at this super Barbiecore event.

The atmosphere was filled with excitement as adult Barbie enthusiasts, dressed in pink and exuding glamour, gathered to celebrate the enduring impact of Barbie. The pre-reception was super pink with themed “Pink Drinks” and “Barbie-Q Sliders”. The event was held at Atlantic Station at Rose Bistro Champagne Bar across from Regal Atlantic Station theater.

Attending the Barbie movie, I fully embraced the vibrant and pink aesthetic. As “Rooftop Barbie,” I received compliments in person and online, with many likening me to “Malibu Barbie” – a comparison I gladly accepted!

Rocking a vibrant hot pink bodycon mini dress with detachable ruffle sleeves, I accessorized with custom Barbie-inspired double heart earrings and a blingy milkshake crossbody purse. To complete the look, my shoes featured candy and cupcake designs that perfectly matched the purse. Talk about being super Barbiecore!

Barbie Movie Review

The ‘Barbie’ movie delves into a profound narrative that surpasses the notion of pretty dolls to play with. Surprisingly, Barbie’s partner, Ken, has his own story, which sheds light on the representation of men in the Barbie world. This unexpected perspective adds depth to the movie and prompts us to contemplate the consciousness Barbie might develop about life beyond being a doll. The film also highlights Barbie’s role as a feminist icon, where women reign in Barbieland as the norm. It sparks the hope that one day the “Real World” could catch up to the progressive ideals of Barbie Land.

The story of Ken turned out to be surprisingly thought-provoking. It made me realize that I had never considered the male perspective of how Ken is portrayed in the Barbie world. Additionally, I can’t help but sympathize with poor Allan – #JusticeforAllan doll!

One of the remarkable aspects of the ‘Barbie’ movie is its ability to resonate across generations. With a history spanning 64 years, Barbie has become an iconic doll that has left an indelible mark on every generation. The film’s PG-13 rating reflects the deep and thought-provoking nature of its message, which may be better understood and appreciated by older audiences. While not vulgar or raunchy, the movie’s mature themes make it a captivating experience for more mature Barbies who appreciate the profound ideas it explores.

A major takeaway from this film is the empowering notion that Barbie cannot be contained within a box. It urges us to break free from societal norms and think outside the “Barbie” box. Just like the iconic quote from Dirty Dancing, let’s create a new trendy catchphrase: “Nobody Puts Barbie in a Box!” Embrace the message and remember that Barbie is meant to shine and break free from any confinement, and you as well.
