DISNEY+ STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW: A Tribute to Black Talent in STEM Thursday 07 November, 2024
Recent research indicates that Black students possess a strong interest and inherent talent in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). However, many do not pursue careers in these fields due to limited access and exposure to the various opportunities available within each industry.
On this National STEM Day (November 8) it’s a time to spotlight an eagerly awaited series that allows young multicultural students to envision themselves as heroes in the universe of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. This series follows young protagonists Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), and KB (Kyriana Kratter) as they embark on adventures in a galaxy far, far away, perfectly capturing the essence of exploration and innovation that lies at the heart of STEM/STEAM education. This exciting new series is sure to thrill Star Wars fans of all ages and serves as an inspiring platform for a new generation of dreamers and doers during what many experts refer to as the ‘golden age of space exploration.’
Just as Wim, Fern, and KB navigate their intergalactic missions and encounter challenges that demand teamwork and creativity, National STEM Day encourages students to explore and embrace the limitless potential within these fields. The problem-solving and creativity portrayed in “Skeleton Crew” reflect the very skills STEM education aims to nurture in students.
Together, National STEM Day and “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” motivate young learners to dream expansively, showing them that with the right tools and education, they can make significant contributions to groundbreaking discoveries and innovative creations. Whether they aspire to build the next generation of spacecraft or design the future of robotics, today’s students hold the power to turn science fiction into reality.
By tapping into the excitement and endless possibilities offered by Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, National STEM Day can spark a passion for learning and creativity, ultimately empowering the next generation of thinkers, creators, and explorers.
