DONT BE A HARD ROCK WHEN YOU REALLY ARE A GEM ADAM SANDLER | UNCUT GEMS REVIEW Thursday 19 December, 2019

When you think of an Adam Sandler film you think of comedy right? Well this holiday season you are going to see him in a way you haven’t seen him on screen before. He has a new movie, Uncut Gems, in which you will get a more serious role and setting from our legendary comedic actor. I am a huge Adam Sandler fan and I got a chance to do a screening in Atlanta to get a first look of his groundbreaking alternative role.

Synopsis

From acclaimed filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie comes an electrifying crime thriller about Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler), a charismatic New York City jeweler always on the lookout for the next big score. When he makes a series of high-stakes bets that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime, Howard must perform a precarious high-wire act, balancing business, family, and encroaching adversaries on all sides, in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win.

After the screening,  Josh and Benny Safdie got on stage and Facetimed Adam Sandler to us! I wish he could of been there in person but I love him so the digital representation was fine! I appreciate it and he really was excited that we got to review the film of his newest work of art. Adam Sandler is definitely an uncut gem!

My Synopsis:

High Anxiety Alert. Seriously this movie is intense. The total opposite of what you would expect from Adam Sandler. We are used to silly laughter and light-heartedness. No in this movie. Adam Sandler totally went left field in his role as Howie the New York  Jewish Jeweler. Now Howie still has a little bit of that charm that Sandler has in his role. You will get a little bit of laughter out of his character, but more annoyance more than anything.

He does stuff in this film that makes you want to slap him through the screen, mostly gambling related. This man has a serious gambling problem. The highlight of this movie is revolving around a crystal. Yes you heard me a crystal. Now I am a crystal girl so now I am intrigued. This movie actually has a powerful message about crystals if you are open to it, if you are not you are going to just see this as a gambling heist. Also just fyi: This era takes place in the early 2010s so we got celebrity appearances from singer The Weeknd, Trinidad James and NBA star Kevin Garnett. You will also hear a lot of 2010s early hip hop music which was kind of cool as this decade is ending. You can really get a feel of that era just by music.

I will say this movie is very intense emotionally, and as an empath I was having a fit on all of these decisions Howie was making. The ending was a shockers…it really went there. I will say it links back to a gem in a metaphysical sense so on that end I got the movie. I will watch it again to get another perspective, but I will say overall this is a great film that Adam has done to show his acting range!

After the screening, there was a fun afterparty in celebration of the film at the W Hotel.

After the movie screening, there was a fun after party for the film. You know as I sat in this chair the movie ending clicked to me…without ruining it reminded me of a Lauryn Hill song lyric. “Don’t Be a Hard Rock When You Really Are a Gem,” Lauryn Hill ‘Doo Wop’ (1998).  That lyric sums up the movie.
