In preparation for the holiday season, Atlanta hosted a special screening of “Candy Cane Lane,” Eddie Murphy’s first Christmas movie, which will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting December 1st. This exclusive preview event served as a wonderful way to kick off the festive spirit and generate excitement for the upcoming film.

During the Atlanta screening of “Candy Cane Lane” on Prime Video, a special treat awaited attendees. Santa himself made an appearance, capturing delightful photos with everyone and adding to the festive atmosphere. Additionally, balloon artists crafted creative candy cane creations, further enhancing the peppermint-themed experience. I had the pleasure of inviting my closest friends and my mother to join me for this enjoyable holiday film with a peppermint “twist”.

TRAILER

Eddie Murphy stars in this holiday comedy adventure about a man on a mission to win his neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest. After Chris (Eddie Murphy) inadvertently makes a deal with a mischievous elf named Pepper (Jillian Bell) to better his chances of winning, she casts a magic spell that brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life and wreaks havoc on the whole town. At the risk of ruining the holidays for his family, Chris, his wife Carol (Tracee Ellis Ross), and their three children must race against the clock to break Pepper’s spell, battle deviously magical characters and save Christmas for everyone.

REVIEW:

Candy Cane Lane is an incredibly enjoyable film that appeals to audiences of all ages. It captures the true essence of the holiday season and immerses viewers in its festive atmosphere. The movie takes a literal approach to the 12 days of Christmas, which sets it apart by showcasing extravagant and larger-than-life Christmas displays.

One aspect I particularly appreciate is how the characters’ names reflect the Christmas theme. The Carver Family, led by Chris Carver (played by Eddie Murphy), embodies the spirit of the season as Chris is a professional wood carver. Even his name, Chris, cleverly hints at Christmas. His wife, Carol (played by Tracee Ellis Ross), also has a fitting name. Together, they have three children named Joy, Nick, and Holly, who were seemingly destined to embrace the Christmas spirit.

The film centers around the annual Candy Cane Lane neighborhood decorating contest, known for its extravagant displays of Christmas decor, towering heights, dazzling lights, and even music like Technotronic. This year, with the contest being televised and streamed, the stakes are higher than ever, with a $100,000 prize for the winning family.
Chris, in need of the prize money due to a holiday misfortune, stumbles upon a pop-up Christmas store where he meets Pepper, an elf with a peppermint twist to her holiday cheer. Pepper has her own agenda, which intertwines with Chris’s desire to win the Candy Cane Lane contest through a significant purchase.
As the story unfolds, Christmas magic takes hold in unprecedented ways, blending elements of The Hunger Games, a Christmas-like plague, and a touch of a Cinderella-inspired time crunch. It’s a unique and captivating experience, with a hint of holiday horror that adds intrigue without being scary.
The film’s production is a delightful mix of live action and AI-generated creations, bringing holiday glass figurines to life and interacting with the cast. Eddie Murphy shines in his first holiday film, alongside the talented Tracee Ellis Ross, who is no stranger to family-oriented movies and TV shows.

In conclusion, Candy Cane Lane is an exciting and extraordinary holiday film. I highly recommend adding it to your holiday movie watch list this year. Take a visit to Candy Cane Lane add it to your Prime Video watch-list and enjoy the festive holiday shenanigans!
