Fela! Atlanta | Red Carpet Recap Friday 05 April, 2013
The Tony award winning Broadway musical FELA!, produced by none other than Jay Z, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, has started the World Tour in the city of Atlanta. Local Atlanta rapper Ludacris, now associate producer of the Broadway musical Fela!, is enhancing his resume and making the city proud of his new venture in stage play production.
I was there for special media coverage and snap pics on the red carpet to showcase the city’s local celebrities for the event. Fela! hosted its showing at the famous Atlanta Fox Theater where the sold out show for opening night was buzzing of excitement.
The RED CARPET RECAP
Hands down the best dress on the Red Carpet for the evening. Stunning in a red gown by Michael Kohrs. Super cute I loved everything! Go Marlo!
The Fela! The Musical Show Overview
The hit musical Fela! is based on the true story of Nigerian singer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti (1938 -1997), who created a musical style known as “Afrobeat”. It explores Kuti’s controversial life as an artist, musician, political maverick and human rights activist. Fela is a mix of musical philanthropy and political activism; what Bob Marley was to Jamaica & what Malcolm X meant to America.
The musical has the financial backing of hip-hop mogul Jay-Z and power couple, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. The current version of “Fela!”, starring Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams which is current on the road with the Broadway musical play on a World Tour.
This show was sensational with amazing African inspired costumes, choreography, musical compositions, crowd interactions, humor, and overall stage production. I highly recommend everyone to see this musical if you haven’t already. It was an experience to remember and I am grateful to have seen this phenomenal showcase.
