You may be familiar with the concept of Christmas in July, but have you ever heard of Hauntings in July? We don’t need to wait for Halloween to embrace the spooky spirit, especially when it comes to Disney’s Haunted Mansion movie. Originally launched on August 9, 1969, the beloved ride is now celebrating 54 years of haunting delights.

In honor of this milestone, the movie has been adapted for the second time, accompanied by some exciting events to commemorate the occasion.

INFLUENCER BRUNCH

During my visit to New Orleans for the Essence Festival, I had the incredible opportunity to attend an exclusive Disney’s Haunted Mansion Influencer brunch. Disney went above and beyond, embracing the film’s New Orleans setting. The event featured a meticulously crafted simulated haunted mansion, mouthwatering NOLA brunch delicacies, delightful festive drinks, and even a few cast members from the film who joined us for the occasion!

Joining us at the Disney’s Haunted Mansion brunch were the talented director Justin Simien, along with renowned film stars Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Rosario Dawson, and Jamie Lee Curtis. The atmosphere was intimate as they engaged in a captivating Q&A session, where they discussed the film in depth.

Following the Q&A, I had the incredible opportunity to personally connect with Lakeith Stanfield and Rosario Dawson, allowing me to create unforgettable memories from this extraordinary encounter.

ATL SCREENING

When I arrived back in Atlanta, they hosted a special screening of Disney’s Haunted Mansion.

I was beyond excited because I had the opportunity to bring my very own Disney’s Haunted Mansion themed Park Ears that were gifted to me during the Influencer Brunch in New Orleans! You all know I am super festive, yes I wore the ears to the movie screening!

Disney’s Haunted Mansion film, directed by Justin Simien and written by Katie Dippold, takes audiences on a thrilling horror-comedy journey inspired by the beloved Disneyland attraction. Distinct from the 2003 version featuring Eddie Murphy, this Disney reboot offers a fresh take on the story, emerging twenty years later. Rather than a straightforward remake, the 2023 Haunted Mansion film presents a mature reimagining of the iconic ride, catering to the Millennial and older Gen-Z audience.

In a departure from its predecessor’s family-friendly tone, this rendition embraces spooky special effects, meticulous set design, and an ensemble cast of stars. Lakeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, Danny Devito, and Chase Dillion bring their talents to the screen, enticing fans of all ages to experience this captivating cinematic adventure.

GHOST TOUR

The Disney’s Haunted Mansion influencer brunch and screening were just the beginning of immersing myself in the “spirit” of the movie. To complete my journey, I had one final adventure awaiting me—a Ghost Tour! Disney graciously invited me to experience my first Ghost Tour, dedicated to celebrating the Haunted Mansion.

At first, I have to admit, I was a bit apprehensive. But I decided to embrace the opportunity and be a good sport. Little did I know that Georgia had its own haunted mansions. Would I be in for a spine-tingling experience?

During the Roswell Ghost Tour, we embarked on a thrilling exploration of genuine locations associated with the Haunted Mansion.

It was truly captivating to learn that Roswell, Georgia held the title of the original Atlanta! Our tour included visits to the historic James Dunwoody Bulloch and Roswell King Mansions, which served as inspiration for the names of Dunwoody and Roswell. Witnessing how history intertwines in such remarkable ways left me in awe. According to local tales, the spirits of these men are believed to still wander within the walls of their former homes.

When it comes to hauntings, I’ve developed my own perspective. After all, each of us resides on lands brimming with countless untold stories, don’t we? It’s the individuals who take it upon themselves to preserve and share that history who hold the key. While some “ghosts” may linger due to unresolved guilt, I personally believe that certain spirits remain as peaceful guardians, ensuring the land maintains a harmonious balance. It’s up to each of us to choose whether we perceive them as haunted spirits or embrace their role as ancestral protectors.

The Ghost Tour, overall, proved to be an enlightening and captivating experience, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the realm of Georgia’s Haunted Mansion. Thanks to Disney, I can proudly say that I’ve had my own eerie encounter with a Haunted Mansion! What a thrilling and chilling experience thanks to Disney!

The Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom will close for a short refurbishment in August 2023. The closure begins August 7 through August 9, reopening to guests on August 10 2023.
