I Met Tyler Perry! | Too Close to Home TV show Pre-Screening Friday 12 August, 2016
TLC hosted a press luncheon at the W Midtown to preview their first-ever scripted series, “Tyler Perry’s Too Close to Home.”
Creator/director/writer Tyler Perry made a surprise appearance at the standing-room-only event, which was also attended by cast members Danielle Savre (Bring It On: All or Nothing), Brock O’Hurn (Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween), Kelly Sullivan (“The Young and the Restless”) Ashley Love-Mills (“Nashville”), newcomer Annie Thrash and Alpha Everette Trivet (“Drop Dead Diva”). Tyler Perry Studios executives Ozzie Areu (President), Will Areu (Senior Vice President) and Mark E. Swinton (Producer) were also on hand to present the show.

I’ve been to several Tyler Perry press junkets, and this is the first time I seen him make an appearance for one. This is awesome seeing that he films the show here in Atlanta as well. We were all happy to see him!
The event included lunch (with special TLC-branded cupcakes by Georgetown Cupcakes), a full episode screening, Q&A and select 1:1 interviews.
So Tyler Perry has developed TLC’s first scripted tv scripted series. Too Close To Home is very close to the drama series of some of his other network television shows that are the OWN Network. It does shy from drama, suspense and shock factor! He really knows how to take a show and keep you on the edge of your seat.
Too Close To Home follows young woman Anna from working class who after an affair with a married senator was at the center of a political scandal. After this, she returned to her old life. Does this show sound a little familiar. I will be honest – if you are a fan of SCANDAL…this is definitely a show you could watch! It’s literally like the trailer park version of drama in the White House…a type of drama we arent use to seeing on tv. Tyler was able to bring that concept to life and the end of the first episode was pretty CRAZY! Tyler made sure to answer all the questions we had about the show and was very passionate on the upcoming success of the debut of this series on TLC.

Well this happened. I finally got an opportunity to meet Mr. Tyler Perry. I have been on his tv sets so many times for various shows such as For Better or Worse, Have and the Have Nots, TV show specials and other shows. Everytime I did background work for him I never got an opportunity to be this close to him so it was an honor. He is a powerhouse, I remember his early journey before the Madea was a movie series…when he was doing on the road stage plays. He is amazing! He has done so much work bringing a piece of Hollywood to Atlanta, expanding the tv and movie industry always coming out with new and consistent material…he is a great creative visual hands on director!

I love how you described this show as the trailer park version of Scandal. When I read that I laughed out loud. Not sure if this is my kind of show, but I’m excited to see more scripted shows coming to new networks.
