[INTERVIEW] Exclusive Chat with Bellamy Young (Mellie Grant) Final Season Of Scandal #ABCTVEvent #Scandal #WrinkleInTimeEvent Thursday 01 March, 2018

Any gladiators in the building? I am a total gladiator as I am a mega fan of Scandal. Did you know this is their final season? I know tears of sadness. As part of my press trip to LA for #WrinkleinTimeEvent, I got the pleasure of interviewing Bellamy Young, who plays Mellie Grant on Scandal. I know many of us someones love to loathe her character, but Bellamy Young was here to share some of her Scandal deets and whats coming up for her soon as well.

We surprised Bellamy Young with a welcome round of applause

Bellamy on what playing Mellie Grant taught her

I was only supposed to be on the show 5 minutes so first you show up and you do your best work even when it’s two lines, and you might not be there for a minute.  You never know what’s going to turn into your dream.  You never know which lottery ticket might pay, so always showing up for yourself, and doing your best work, regardless.  But, Mellie, man, she does not care if people are comfortable.  I want everybody to be happy all the time. Mellie could care less.  So, spending 16 hours a day as a sort of like my way or the highway has been very informative.  I don’t think I will ever learn in that direction, but it does remind me that there are many ways to be. Many acceptable ways to walk through this life and it has been a deep privilege an enduring privilege to get to have been her.

Bellamy exclaiming what it is like acting and playing Mellie

I feel like getting to be an actor is like getting to live a million lifetimes in one little lifetime. It’s nice to be evil. Because if you’re evil, you’re running the generator, right? You’re the fuel for the story, you light the match, and it all burns. [Which Mellie is her favorite] All of them! I love her rainbow. I’m so interested to see if she will get to be happy Mellie.

Bellamy on how she would like for the final episode of Scandal to end

I wished for her eight years in office and a White House wedding with Marcus. If I have spoiled the end of this, of our series, then they will strike me dead somewhere, she says laughing. But I don’t know looking at the chessboard, the way everyone is placed at the second-to-last episode. I am glad I’m not a writer on this show. I wouldn’t know what to do at this point.

If she can take anything from the Scandal set what would Bellamy take

I’m going to write with a presidential pen for the rest of my life. I’m gonna take them all.

Bellamy talks about her connection and getting involved with Ava in ‘A Wrinkle in Time’

Ava directed an episode during the second season. Afterward, she called and ask Bellamy Young if she would like to do a two-day movie. Bellamy shared with us during the interview she gladly accepted and would have said yes if it meant planting in the garden because she just wants to be there.

What a pure hearted woman. I was so excited to meet her and after interviewing her I love her even more. This hug mad me sad because I do feel like I have to face reality that I have to say farewell to Scandal soon. Seven years of being invested in a show is a long time. I love Bellamy is nothing like her on-screen character, she is sweet, relatable, beautiful and such a people person. She has some of the most die-hard fans on Twitter. Bellamy Young will also tweet you back so please follow her on Twitter to engage with her at @BellamyYoung

  • Joanna says:

I used to love Scandal but I dind’t see all episodes because it was taken out from Prime and never added back. Even now, on Netflix, there are only the first few seasons. I remember how I didn’t really like Mellie, as she wasn’t that nice in the first seasons. But reading the interview and finding out some spoilers, made me curious about how the series went on.
