MOVIE REVIEW: THE UPSIDE (featuring Kevin Hart & Bryan Cranston) Friday 11 January, 2019

I saw the screening to this new heartwarming film that is called The Upside. It features Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston, and I think this is a wonderful movie to start the new year.

Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston star in THE UPSIDE.

TRAILER

Synopsis: The Upside is a 2019 American comedy-drama film directed by Neil Burger and written by Jon Hartmere. It is a remake of the French 2011 film The Intouchables, which was itself inspired by the life of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo. The film follows a paralyzed billionaire (Bryan Cranston) who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a recently paroled convict (Kevin Hart) whom he hires to take care of him. Nicole Kidman, Julianna Margulies, and Aja Naomi King also star. It is the third remake of The Intouchables after the Indian Oopiri and the Argentinian Inseparables.

MY REVIEW

I actually love that they casted Kevin Hart in a more sentimental type of role. Kevin is still pretty funny in this movie, you won’t get around him not cracking a few jokes but it was refreshing to see him in this light. I didn’t realize this film was based on a true story, so to see Kevin play a character who has to be the caregiver to a paraplegic billionaire was interpreting to watch.  You will see a parallels of the wealthy verses the abundant. There is definitely a lesson on both sides to be learned.

For the ones in poverty, there is always opportunities to get out of it and the message I did receive from it is to find your talent. Your true talent can help you manifest the life you deserve not the one you were born into. Maybe you have to do something outside the box to get you where you need to go creatively to jumpstart your life.

For the ones looking at the rich and people with supreme wealth, in the incident that Bryan Cranston plays the paraplegic, it definitely shows that all the money in the world cant buy you everything. I know the message ring loud and clear but imagine having all the money and can’t even take care of your own basic needs.

It is definitely a story of a unpredictable bond where two people probably wouldn’t connect under normal circumstances, but they both needed each other and learned from one another. It teaches compassion from both spectrum where the world could judge them and dismiss them in society. It was beautiful to watch, it is a heartwarming story and even better that this is a real story.

The Upside is in theater January 11th. #TheUpside
