Payback is a Mother with Gabrielle Union’s new action film Breaking In (Movie Review) Friday 11 May, 2018
Mother’s Day is approaching and I definitely know a great movies to share with your mom. Gabrielle Union stars in the new thriller-action flick movie, Breaking In and let me tell you she loses it. Wouldn’t you lose it if your kids were in danger? Producers Will Packer (No Good Deed, Obsessed) and Union (Almost Christmas, Being Mary Jane) is also a producer who reunited for this original thriller directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, Sense8).

Synopsis: Shaun Russell takes her son and daughter on a weekend getaway to her late father’s secluded, high-tech vacation home in the countryside. The family soon gets an unwelcome surprise when four men break into the house to find hidden money. After managing to escape, Shaun must now figure out a way to turn the tables on the desperate thieves and save her captive children.

My thoughts: I think this was an amazing thriller. I will be honest, sometimes thrillers can have that predictable factor to it, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. This is my first time seeing Gabrielle Union in an action role like this so it was good to see he switch up her role. The kids which are played by Ajiona Alexus (Acrimony) and Seth Carr (Black Panther) who both had movies that debuted this year that did well and great to see them as siblings in this film. Will Packard did amazing with this film because he is know for making top rom-coms and comedy movies (Think Like A Man, Girls Trip) but I am glad he went back to his roots (Trois) with another thriller. I also commend him for producing a action film staring an African American woman, because lets be honest this isnt something we see in the movies often at all. Proud Mary starring Taraji P. Henson and this film is probably the only action films that have came out in mainstream that starred black women without an ensemble cast. Representation matters.
This movie is about a mother who will do anything to protect her family. She is definitely not a damsel in distress. Mama bear isn’t playing! Break into her house, and she might just break something of yours! I think this is the perfect Mother’s Day weekend movie to go check out. Go see it with your mom, it would definitely be a good movie to catch with her. Payback is a mother!

I don’t like movies that are too violent. But this one really intrigues me because it has an interesting storyline (predictable, yet entertaining), and Gabriel Union as a mom on screen should be fun.
Yes! When I saw the trailer of this movie I was literally at the edge of my seat. There’s truly nothing a mother can do for her kids. I’ll definitely watch this.
