SUICIDE SQUAD | Movie Review Friday 05 August, 2016
Hey guys here for another movie review. I am reviewing the highly anticipated film Suicide Squad produced from the adaption of the DC Comics. I want to get this out the way and say this movie over-exceeded my expectations and I am excited to share my thoughts with you all on this film. If you are into comic, you have be awaiting for this for a long time and the personification of the cartoon characters were greatly casted and was given justice to bring this movie alive. If you aren’t familiar with the infamous SUICIDE SQUAD I will give you a brief synopsis.
Synopsis: Suicide Squad is a 2016 American superhero film based on the DC Comics antihero team of the same name and is the third installment in the DC Extended Universe. The film is written and directed by David Ayer and stars an ensemble cast featuring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood and Cara Delevingne. In Suicide Squad, a secret government agency led by Amanda Waller recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions and save the world from a powerful threat in exchange for clemency. MOVIE TRAILER
My opinion: I will be honest I had my bias on this film because I am not into comics, I didn’t know the backstory and I am not into action flicks. I also was turned off by the name “Suicide Squad” so I didnt know what kind of sick twisted movie this was gonna be and I almost wanted no parts in it. I was WRONG! This movie was so intriguing, and especially with the visuals. The production did A-1 on the visual aesthetics of the film as they had a modern cartoon pop art effect and bright colors that immediately drew me in. This film had a superstar cast, but Will Smith is one of the major stars of the film; I didn’t know that until later and of course he blew it out the water as a leading man of the Squad DeathPoint. He looked great playing the role too may I add, and although he was a lead – he didn’t overshadow the storyline.
Another point I loved in the movie was Margot Robbie character who played the fiesty and psychopathic Harley Quinn. She is apart of the squad as a ditzy, flirty but very mental imbalanced character – and she played this role so well. Harley Quinn was the lover to The Joker…and I love how they tied in their backstory and her development of her being the psycho we know her to be. She was a little sexy but not too over the top to where it was distracting but she really personified the original comic book character. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out the correlation of Will Smith and Margot Robbie relationship, but they played in the movie Focus together as a love interest. They arent lovers in Suicide Squad but there is still a great working chemistry between these two and happy they were casted together to bring this movie more to life.
Overall this movie was playful and fun. If you aren’t into comicbooks like myself, you would still highly enjoy this film for the entertaiment and follow along well. A lot of people are anticipating this film because of Jared Leto’s role as the infamous Joker. The Joker is totally different, modern, trendy and flashy but still psychic! I will be honest is not a whole lot of Joker like you think because he is NOT the main villian…and I wont spoil it and tell you who the villian is but its interesting. Maybe this new modern Joker will get his own film adaptation based on his trendier more urban gangster like adaptation. We will see. I highly recommend you go see this…entertaining, fun and engaging.
But wait there’s more!!!
So if you liked this review or want just a little more of my perspective, I filmed my first video Youtube review on #SuicideSquad. I shot a collaborative video with my friend Carl and visual commentary on what I thought. Please check it out (like + comment + subscribe).
I really want to see this movie! I love actions movies and I really think this one is going to be so good! Can’t wait to check it out this weekend!
I’m like you, kinda turned off by the name. Plus the movie trailers seem dark to me. But my boys want to see it so many I’ll consider it.
I saw the preview and it looks like a really fun, high octane movie. Perfect for the summer!
Someone was telling me about this movie the other day. My husband has always preferred DC comics.
Wow – blown away, huh? That is intriguing because I’m not into comics but your review is making me curious!

This sounds like a movie my hubby would enjoy. I may have to take him to see it for a date night!
So any movie that uses Queen as its theme song has me! It looks great! Thanks for the review, now I want to see it!
I will be sharing this with my 24yr old daughter. This is her type of movie.
I am not into comic books or super hero movies at all, but can not wait to see Suicide Squad. Jared Leto as The Joker is reason enough for me!
I can’t wait to see this! I love movies like this!
My boyfriend is so excited to see this movie, he just asked me to go see it with him and I was like ummmmmmm no lol I have 0 interest but maybe I’ll give it a chance now haha!
It’s a movie that comic book fans have been waiting for! My teen cannot have enough of this which is why we’re going to watch this weekend if we can squeeze it in!
The name turned me off too, so I didn’t even consider seeing Suicide Squad. It sounds like it might be worth checking out! Thanks for your review!
I had no intentions of seeing this film, but with this glowing review, I’m going to have to add it to my must see list. The costumes and makeup do look pretty cool!
I bet my husband would love to take my boys to see this movie. They love superheros! Thanks for letting us know that it is worth seeing.
I’m on the fence with wanting to see this. I’ve heard great things but not sure it’s for me
Can’t wait to see this movie. Had so many great actors in it and it looks like a lot of fun!
I haven’t seen the movie yet but base on your review, I think I would enjoy it! Can’t wait to see it with my kids!
I am so excited to see this film! I almost got to go see it last night but plans fell through. Thanks for the review!
I’m not much into comics so I felt the same way about this film as you did. I’m glad for the review! I might go see it now!
My daughter saw it last night and didn’t care for it. I’m glad you liked it though!
WOW! I always look forward to your movie reviews.. Now.. THIS!! looks like it’s GOOD.
Wow great review. My husband is a big fan of comics and comic movies. I’ll have to see how he feels about this for a next date night.
Thanks for the review. I do like super hero movies but hadn’t made up my mind about this one.
To be honest I am turned off by the the title but I do like Will Smith so maybe I will give it a chance thanks for your review.
I’m not a comic fan so really haven’t given it much thought. After reading your review I”m considering seeing it.
I will always love me some Will Smith. I’ve watched him promote this movie on a few late night shows. Comics aren’t my thing, but my son really wants to see it. He is all about comics.
I’m not into comics either, but I do love action movies. When I saw the promos for it I wanted to see it. Hopefully the hubby and I get to see it.
Thanks for the review. My hubby actually went to see it and he a agrees with you that you don’t have to be a comics lover to enjoy the movie.
We are going to go see this movie tomorrow night. I have been looking forward to watching this since they announced that the were making it.
My BIL saw it for his birthday and he loved it. I’ve heard several good reviews.
Thanks for the review! I might actually have to check this out. I admit I was skeptical, but I know if you like it then I’ll like it.
This movie looks like it would be a blast to see. All of your “heroes” in the same movie.
I’m still on the fence about seeing this movie. I’m a bit tapped out on superhero or anti-hero movies. But after reading your review, I might have to check it out. It does look like a wild ride.
Good review but this is definitely not my kind of movie at all. I am sure there are many fans
What a nice review! I am not a huge fan of DC but this sounds a nice movie.
I really want to watch Suicide Squad but my friend said that it was a let down as apparently the acting and portrayal of female characters was poor. I am a little sad as I love Margot Robbie so I am still going to watch it anyway because I loved the comics.
The previews for Suicide Squad looked interesting, but I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to go see it. I may have to check it out now, just to find out who the villian is.
I will definitely let my 23-year old daughter read this. She’s into these types of movie. I may consider it, but normally it’s not my type of movie. Thanks for the review.
I saw all the promo on it last week all over tv. I am a little intrigued even though I don’t normally do action or comic movies.
I Need to see this movie!!! It’s so awesome and I can already see how the this halloween will turn out
I have heard really mixed review about Suicide Squad from friends and family as well. I remember seeing a lot of the movie fans protesting to take down a review from Rotten Tomatoes — will have to watch it for myself and see what I think!
Half of me wants to watch the movie but the other half is terrified lol! It looks like such a great movie but scary at the same time. I’ve never been a fan of villains, except for The Evil Queen on Once Upon a Time which I love!
My hubby went and saw this first, then we went together because I wanted to see it so nad. I personally liked it. I can see where some people leave negative reviews about it.
We are going this weekend!! My hubby is dying to see this
Wow! This is my first time hearing of this movie. I’m so glad you mentioned that you were hesitant about it initially because I was too LOL I’ve gotta share with hubby cause this is right up his alley
In the Harley Quinn makeup Margot Robbie looks exactly like Anne Hathaway to me! I will catch this one when it hits cable, this heatwave we are having is making it so I don’t want to go anywhere lately!
Interesting perspective from someone not interested in comics. I think you covered it well for others who saw the previews and the film peaked their interest. I am a comicbook fan and have yet to see it! You have given me the motivation I need to make my way to the movies before it is no longer playing!
