The Queen of Soul gets the “Respect” in the Aretha Franklin Biopic Film Starring Jennifer Hudson Thursday 12 August, 2021
Before there was the Queen Bey…there was the Queen of Soul ARETHA FRANKLIN. She was the original diva of the 60s and 70s and it is time to finally honor her in a biopic of her life RESPECT.
Its with the upmost respect, prior to Aretha Franklin’s passing, she hand-picked Jennifer Hudson to play her personally in a biopic of her life. Did you know Jennifer Hudson was one of the few people to speak with Ms.Franklin before she left this Earth?
Everyone remembers Jennifer Hudson’s Academy Award winning role in 2006 Dreamsgirls. She won the Oscar for best supporting actress playing Effie. No one will ever forget the chilling redention of her role in Effie and especially for the song “Your Gonna Love Me” in Dreamgirls. Of course Ms.Franklin would choose Hudson to play her as she mastered the voice and she blends in well with the 60s and 70s era! JHud has that vintage appeal that is timeless and she played Ms.Franklin perfectly.
Ironically and “respectfully”, three years to the week after Franklin’s death, the culmination of those conversations materialize onscreen with Hudson’s performance in “Respect,”the long-delayed Franklin biopic finally coming to screens nationwide! Aretha Franklin passed on August 16, 2018 – RESPECT will be in theaters everywhere August 13th, 2021. Check out the trailer below.
