WHERE TO DISCOVER YOUR NEXT TRAVEL JOURNEY: State of Yucatán, Mexico Wednesday 24 July, 2019

This post is unsponsored information provided by Ministry of Tourism of the State of Yucatan.

State of Yucatán is one of the 31 states which, with Mexico City, comprise the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. It is divided into 106 municipalities, and its capital city is Mérida.

Before the arrival of Spaniards to the Yucatán Peninsula, the name of this region was Mayab.[12] In the Mayan language, “ma’ ya’ab” is translated as “a few”. It was a very important region for the Mayan civilization, which reached the peak of its development here, where the Mayans founded the cities of Chichen Itza, Izamal, Motul, Mayapan, and more. So yes where I went to visit one of the 7th wonders of the worlds, Chichen Itza, is located here.

hotel Mesón del Marqués

Hotel El Meson del Marques is one of the most traditional hotels in Valladolid, magic town. It is located right in the main square, and it is developed in an old casona that traces back to XVII century, where the colonial elegance mixes with modern facilities, and nowadays, the hotel offers more than 50 years of experience. Considered one of the heartwarming and romantic in Valladolid, for locals and foreigners its location is ideal to walk all of the typical places from around the city, the oldest neighborhoods and La calzada de los frailes; also from Yucatan, just like Chichen itza, Ek Balam, Coloradas and more.

Discover Lagartos River and Las Coloradas Biosphere Reserve

known as the Pink Lakes

Las Coloradas is a community in the Rio Lagartos Municipality, Yucatán, Mexico. It is located at the northern coast of the Yucatan peninsula on a stretch of land which separates the Gulf of Mexico from the lagoon Ria Lagartos. Huge salt evaporation ponds for sea salt extraction lie on this stretch of land, some of them showing peculiar colors due to micro-organisms, like the pink lagoon Laguna Rosa.

Flamingo and bird watching is common here, close to a bioreserve. The town and the pink lagoons have now become a popular tourist attraction, thanks to Instagram posts which make the lakes appear much more romantic than they really are. The lakes are certainly intriguing but are difficult to get to without a tour or a hire car.[2] Tours can be arranged to see the resident flamingos and other birds, including a stop at the coloured lakes if requested.

Continue on to marvel at the Palace of the Governor, the Nunnery Quadrangle, the house of the Tortoises and of the Doves, or the ancient Maya ball court.  All these treasures, and more, await you mere minutes out the front door of the Lodge at Uxmal.
