Art, Activism, and Hip-Hop Unite: Highlights from the UNDERWATER PROJECTS Premiere Narrated by Wanda Sykes Wednesday 25 September, 2024
Hip Hop Caucus, the dynamic nonprofit that blends art, activism, and hip-hop culture, recently rolled out the Green Carpet for the premiere of the short film UNDERWATER PROJECTS during Climate Week NY. The event brought together a vibrant community of supporters, including Hip Hop Caucus President & CEO Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr., Managing Director and COO Liz Havstad, and passionate environmental advocates like sustainability activist Anya Dillard.
Narrated by comedian Wanda Sykes and directed by Liz Havstad, UNDERWATER PROJECTS dives into the pressing issue of coastal urban flooding in Hampton Roads, Virginia, home to the world’s largest naval base, which is at risk of sinking. The film highlights a stark reality: the flood walls fall short right where they need to protect a housing project and a historic African American community.
