Atlanta to Experience the First-Ever SIAC Basketball Tournament in 2025 Tuesday 18 February, 2025

Get ready, Atlanta! Exciting news is on the horizon as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) is bringing its highly anticipated 2025 Basketball Tournament to our city from March 4–8, 2025. This is a monumental occasion for us—it’s the first time this prestigious tournament will be hosted in Atlanta, and the city couldn’t be more thrilled!
The Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority (AFCRA) is buzzing with excitement, recognizing the cultural and economic impact this tournament will have on the community. With Atlanta being home to a vibrant HBCU community, the connection between the SIAC and our city runs deep, making this event even more meaningful. It’s a celebration of our rich history and the incredible talent that has emerged from our local institutions.
SIAC Commissioner Anthony Holloman shared how significant this moment is, especially considering the conference was founded back in 1913 at Morehouse College to uplift Black college athletes. Hosting the tournament in Atlanta feels like a beautiful full-circle moment, marking over a century of dedication to supporting these athletes. With 15 member schools—including Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, Albany State University, and Tuskegee University—competing for the SIAC Championship title, we’re in for an exciting week. And it’s not all about basketball; the tournament will be a vibrant weeklong celebration filled with events like HBCU ATL Fest, the ChangeHER Brunch, and special gatherings for alumni and students. So, mark your calendars and get ready for an unforgettable experience leading up to March Madness!
Atlanta is a lively center for Black culture, sports, and entertainment, making it the perfect spot to celebrate the legacy of HBCU athletics, especially with schools like Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University in the area. By hosting the SIAC Championship Tournament, the city not only highlights the rich history of Black college sports but also demonstrates its commitment to supporting HBCUs and creating economic opportunities.
