This April, Johnny’s Hideaway is throwing a huge bash to celebrate 45 years of “dancing, dining, and cocktails” – just like their iconic marquee promises at the door. This winning combo has made Johnny’s one of the most beloved nightclubs in the Southeast, standing the test of time with style.
The anniversary will be celebrated on Thursday, April 25, starting at 11 am, with specials on the menu, including $10 cocktails and $4.50 beer and wine offerings all day.
Back when Johnny’s first opened during the Carter administration, the tunes on the dance floor came from crackling 45 RPM vinyl records. Now, it’s all digital, but the number 45 still holds its own – representing the years of good times and wild nights that this Atlanta hotspot has provided. While many places are constantly changing to keep up with the times, Johnny’s secret to success is keeping it cozy and familiar.
From the decor to the tunes to the menu, owner Chris D’Auria pours her heart into maintaining the classic Johnny’s vibe. She goes to great lengths to make sure everything stays the same – even if they do update a light fixture or two. They might switch out the carpet every couple of years, but it’s always the same style. Tracking down the exact chairs and upholstery they use is no easy task, but they buy in bulk to make sure they always have the right look.
Johnny’s draws in a crowd of over-40 regulars and young night owls in their 20s and 30s who just can’t resist the disco ball and lively dance floor. Whether you’ve been grooving at Johnny’s for years or it’s your first time, you can count on hearing your favorite tunes. The classics like The Temptations and Michael Jackson are on regular rotation, with the occasional Taylor Swift or Bruno Mars hit thrown in for good measure.
You can swing by Johnny’s any night of the week for a late-night party, with the doors closing at 3 a.m. – except on Sundays when they call it a night at midnight. One more tradition stands strong at Johnny’s – the closing song that plays just before the lights come up.
