Macys Introduces Rachel Roy Collection NYC Graffiti Style Wednesday 16 November, 2016
Macys had an awesome fashion event this weekend introducing the new Rachel Roy Collection. Although Rachel Roy has been linked to Beyonce’s Lemonade song allegedly this year, she is known for her fashion styling and her self-named collections. Her newest collection is inspired by the 80s hip hop era of Graffiti art. To showcase the fashion, I thought it was going to be a fashion show within Macy’s — but I was wrong. They did something more creative and artsy to bring the collection to life.
To go with the NYC graffiti theme, myself and the Macy’s attendees were introduced to SEN ONE, a famous NYC hiphop graffiti artist who were one of the leader of this art form. He brought NYC to ATL with his art and all of the attendees got an interactive graffiti lesson using fabric paint paints to use on pouches. We made our own DIY graffiti fashion pouches!
SEN ONE was kind enough to give everyone there own personal lesson on how to write their name in graffiti style to create their own unique pouches. He was excellent with teaching everyone details on how to write our name in the graffiti style and gave us other artsy tips to spruce the bag and learn graffiti techniques in other ways. Below are photos of myself and the attendees DIY-ing our bags.
Everyone made so many cute unique pouches and I was proud of my own creations. While we were all enjoying our hip hop grafitti art lessons, there were models walking around us showcasing the Rachel Roy Collection. Check them out below.
Overall Macy’s did a great job with this in-store event to display the collection. I am happy this was an out-of-the-box approach to display fashion and get into the art. Hip Hop Graffiti has been around since the early 80s, seems like a lost art but doing the DIY pouches gave me and the attendees a newfound love for the, I see why Rachel Roy made a collection to honor the art of the style that inspired the hip hop movement in NYC 30+ years ago. When fashion imitates art. Love the concept.

I have always loved Graffiti! So to see it on clothes makes it so cool. I think it’s cool to take art to a new level and it gives me more to wear than my regular blacks and grey
I like Graffiti Art and make sure to document it whenever l find it, as l am so artistically challenged. Loved the Ashley pouch one the most. Looks like it was a fun event.
Cute! I need to get one of those pouches for myself. I like to add fun and colorful pieces to my wadrobe. Will have to visit my local Macy’s soon the see what they have from the new Rachel Roy Collection.

Born and raised in Bed-stuy Brooklyn, I for sure appreciate graffiti art. I love the graffiti jacket and the leggings. It was pretty dope that you got to color in your own bag.
I love the truly free art form of graffiti. This line of apparel would be perfect for my daughter’s dance classes.
I can definitely appreciate graffiti! This is so cool that Macy’s did this, and I really love the style of it all.
I love graffiti! We made a special trip to Graffiti Alley when we went to Canada this summer because I wanted to see the walls. I really need those graffiti leggings in my life!
I love everything about this event. I’m an 80’s baby so this is my arena. On top of that I grew up in the Bronx while all of the Hip Hop graffiti life was emerging.
I’m so going to DIY my own graffiti bag or shirt or something.

Good to see Rachel Roy is stepping out of her comfort zone and taking it to the streets if just a little. I’ll be sure to check out her designs the next time I visit Macy’s.
Our son is obsessed with graffiti. Around Atlanta he can see it on many overpasses. I’m reinforcing to him that all graffiti isn’t bad. It can definitely be art!
I love graffiti! I always have, even back “in the day” when it was considered vandalism. There was something haunting that spoke to me, these people with beautiful and spellbounding words.
OMG! I used to have graffiti art t-shirts way back in the 70s. Yes, I am that old. I love the style.
Oh wow, I love the look of this. It looks classy!
aaaaagh – I LOVE graffiti art and this event looks like a total blast! I want to do my name in graffiti style and wish I was there having fun with you all!
I love the heart shirt and the leggings in the last picture! What a fun event, the bag you made is awesome!
It all looks so cute! The graffiti pants are my favorite! I could picture running around my neighborhood in those any day!
I remember watching a documentary on graffiti art, and it was fascinating. It takes a lot of skill to create those pieces. Glad to see Macys and Rachel Roy are celebrating that with this collection.
Love this! The collection is pretty awesome, you can’t expect less if the inspiration is as colorful and as expressive as graffiti!
SO stylish and artistic. So envious you tried doing it! Kewl.
That is so cool! I wish I could try it too.
These patterns are so cute! I love workout clothes with bright colors. I’m not usually brave enough to wear them any other time.
The collection is TOTALLY awesome! I love it. What a cool thing you got to be a part of. I could never design that myself but appreciate the hard work that goes into creating it. 🙂
So cute! You guys have the most amazing graffiti skills for just one lesson 🙂
Love the creativity. Everything looks amazing. This is one way to really showcase your imagination and style at the same time.
