The Netflix holiday extravaganza “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey” provides plenty of seasonal razzle dazzle. Writer/director Talbert (Baggage Claim, Almost Christmas) originally conceived the project as a stage musical, and it’s easy to see its theatrical roots in the lavish production numbers, including an elaborately choreographed (by Ashley Wallen) snowball fight. This is a very star-studded cast with the likes of Forest Whitaker, Keegan-Michael Key, Hugh Bonneville, Anika Noni Rose, Madelen Mills, Phylicia Rashad, Ricky Martin, Justin Cornwell, Sharon Rose, Lisa Davina Phillip, Kieron Dyer.

Synopsis:
A musical adventure and a visual spectacle for the ages, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is a wholly fresh and spirited family holiday event. Set in the gloriously vibrant town of Cobbleton, the film follows legendary toymaker Jeronicus Jangle (Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker) whose fanciful inventions burst with whimsy and wonder. But when his trusted apprentice (Emmy winner Keegan-Michael Key) steals his most prized creation, it’s up to his equally bright and inventive granddaughter (newcomer Madalen Mills) — and a long-forgotten invention — to heal old wounds and reawaken the magic within. The film’s is full of vibrant steampunk visual aesthetic (Talbert inspirations were Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Doctor Doolittle) that matched their eye-popping sets. The energetic musical numbers throughout the movies are heavily infused with R&B but mixing musical styles which includes traditional Broadway-style ballads as well. This was a beautiful produced film, I am loving the holiday spectacular film starring a mostly African American cast. The representation and diversity of holiday movies are increasing and that inclusion is needing in the space and genre for African American lead magical musicals for the season too! It was beautiful to see. People from all walks of life and backgrounds will enjoy this film, a great way to Making Spirits Bright this holiday season!
