I had an great media opportunity to interview David Oyelowo during the 10th Annual BronzeLens Film Festival “Opening Night” Screening of his Feature Film, Don’t Let Go. David Oyelowo is known for many of his time piece movies such as Red Tails, The Butler, A Raisin in the Sun, The Help and most notably known for his role as Martin Luther King Jr. in the movie Selma.
‘Dont Let Go’ Synopsis: A man’s family dies in what appears to be a murder, but he soon gets a phone call from one of the dead, his niece. He is unsure if she is a ghost or if he is going insane, but as it turns out, he is not. After receiving the call two weeks into the future, he works to prevent her death before it happens.
TRAILER
Festival attendees had the opportunity to see a sneak preview of the thriller before it hits movie theaters on August 30th. Don’t Let Go stars David Oyelowo (Selma) and Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time) and was directed by Jacob Estes (Mean Creek). In the film, detective Jack Radcliff (Oyelowo) gets a shocking phone call from his recently murdered niece Ashley (Reid). Working together across time, they race to solve her murder before it can happen.
I had the pleasure of interviewing David Oyelowo on the carpet during the BronzeLens festival prior to the screening for Dont Let Go movie. I asked him questions such as how was it playing the historical Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, Working with Storm Reid again, how time plays an important role in this film and his answer to what we can do in the present as a people that can effect our future. Check out the full interview below from my IGTV!
INTERVIEW
BronzeLens presented Oyelowo with their 2019 Trailblazer Award at the event, which will also feature a Q&A with the actor moderated by Gil L. Robertson, IV, Co-Founder and President of the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA). This is shared after the interview as he got emotional and was grateful for being a recipient of the Trailblazer Award.
It was wonderful interviewing David Oyelowo, and full review of my thoughts on Dont Let Go next week. If you are a fan of the psychological thrillers Blumhouse Productions produces such as Paranormal Activity, GET OUT, Happy Death Day, The Purge, and MA you will enjoy Dont Let Go!
