{Event Recap + Review} Introducing Preachers of LA Wednesday 09 October, 2013
Holy Moly Ready for another Reality Show? (yes pun intended).
Preachers Of L.A, a new reality series on Oxygen, will portray six well-known mega-pastors from Southern California. According to the media release, “While ‘Preachers of L.A.’ documents these pastors’ lifestyles, the series also focuses on the daily struggles and triumphs they face as men, husbands, fathers, brothers and friends.”
A month ago, I got to attend a private media luncheon that previewed what’s in store for the new reality series.
This is the new wave of modern day pastors who flaunt Bentleys, wear expensive clothes and jewelry, live in mansions, women ranging between wives, girlfriends and baby mothers with even some gang affiliation being thrown in the mix. These pastors are pulling the veil from over everyone’s eyes about traditional preachers and exposing how even they have everyday drama and mishaps.
As myself & the attendees watched snippets of upcoming episodes of Preachers of LA, many had mixed reviews of the show and had lots of questions. Many had concerns on the controversy intertwining religion and reality. Is that a good idea?
The pastors, all six of them with their own unqiue preaching styles and personalities, promised a different outlook on reality television and the perception of the modern day ‘preacher’ , while sharing a positive message to the masses.
MEET THE PASTORS
I am actually personally excited about the most recognizable pastor on the show,mega-superstar gospel singer and Grammy winner Deitrick Haddon. In my opinion he is going to be one of the biggest breakthrough stars of the show because of the controversy of his 1st divorce and having a child out of wedlock. He also has a large gospel fanbase, but his fans standby his side or be shocked and taking the reality show limelight direction for fame?
Overall I have mix reviews on how I think the success of the show will play out. In on aspect I can see the positivity and how the pastor can spread faith messages to the masses through reality television. On the flip side, it’s still something unsettling about mixing Religion and Reality? Materialism and Ministry? Faith & Fame? Can the two worlds really exist?
We will find out tonight as the series premieres on Oxygen. Let’s say a prayer and hope for the best – for their sake!
Will you be watching? If so, tell me how you feel about mixing religion and reality.
Preachers Of L.A. premieres today Oct 9th at 10pmEST on The Oxygen Network.

Love Social Media-lite,
Being a reality show junkie i must confess i will be checking it out.
It was actually really good! I am pleasantly surprised!
Pastor Jay, about a year ago I watched the show where you spoke about tattoos and that it is not wrong to have one. So I decided to get myself a tattoo and today a year later my colleagues is attacking me, saying all kinds of nasty things about my tattoo. And how wrong it was of me to have this tattoo. How the bible is against us having tattoos
