Foodie Review| Mimi’s Cafe Feature Fall Guest Recipe Honey Lavender Grilled Pork Chop Friday 16 September, 2016

Mimi’s, the popular neighborhood cafe offering French-inspired American comfort food, recently asked its guests to develop Mimi’s next great entrée for a chance to win a trip to France. The winner, Honey Lavender Grilled Pork Chop, will be featured in all Mimi’s Cafes. I got a chance to do a food tasting of the dish along with some other fall items on their menu.

All Mimi Cafe locations are a wonderful cuisine blend of French and American Comfort food flavors. To go with the food flavors, the place is decorated with a New Orleans French flair with a little Parisian touches.

Featured Fall Dish: The Honey Lavender Pork Chop

The feature fall meal I was here to try was The Honey Lavender Pork Chop.  An original recipe for Honey Lavender Pork Chop, submitted by Michael Watz of Evanston, Illinois brought to life the heart of what Mimi’s is all about: American comfort food with French influence. For the winning recipe, Watz and his wife have won a trip to France, where the Mimi’s parent company, Groupe Le Duff, is based. To perfect the winning entrée for guests, Mimi’s took the center-cut pork chop lightly glazed with honey, herbs de Provence and lavender and paired it with a mixed green salad with green apples, cranberries, goat cheese, toasted walnuts and roasted potato croutons tossed with balsamic dressing.

“This one-of-a-kind dish brings the lavender of the French countryside to America’s beloved grilled thick-cut pork chop,” said Pierce, cookbook author and chef.  “We went looking for an original French-inspired, American comfort food recipe to feature at Mimi’s cafes and we found dozens.  In the end, the light honey and herb glaze with the smoky grilled pork won us over.”

Pumpkin Cheesecake Slabpie

It was insisted that I try the signature Fall dessert of the Pumpkin Cheesecake Slabpie. We already know its fall season approaching when pumpkin takesover many of your signature sweet flavors. I never had a slabpie before bu this was delicious. The pumpkin cheesecake was amazing, fluffy and it had a full graham cracker bottom which finished this treat off perfectly. Well I felt fall right in my mouth. Hello!

Many of the dishes I ate including the fall signature dish of The Honey Lavender Pork Chop meal is on Mimi’s famous handwritten chalkboard. I love this vintage approach to dining as it gives it a personal touch, as well as each server will let you know of the chalkboard feature dishes before you place your order. Some are not on the menu and these can switch often so check out this board as well if you need additional info on what to get as your meal.

Mimi’s CMO Stewart Slocum explained the appeal of the recipe and why Chef Pierce is the perfect guest judge for Mimi’s: “The Honey Lavender Pork Chop fits right in at Mimi’s and complements our offerings, all of which are simply prepared and authentic.

If you are a pork chop lover (or just a lover of pork in general) this is a truly unique dish. A dish made by the people for the people and best part, you can get this for lunch or dinner for a very affordable price.
