{Recap} Macys The Soul Era Black History Atlanta ft. June Ambrose Tuesday 10 February, 2015
This year, Macy’s celebrates Black History Month with “The Soul Era” featuring celeb stylists June Ambrose and costume designer, Johnetta Boone and Dr.Courtney Hammonds at Lenox Square Mall in Atlanta. The panelist gave attendees an entertaining look at the history of fashion, accessories and attitude that rocked the runways of the ’60s and ’70s and had an undeniable effect on the way we look and dress today.
Ms. Ambrose and Ms. Boone are icons of the fashion world. They’ve worked with superstars such as Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Will Smith, and Zoe Saldana, and have been featured in Vogue Germany, New York Magazine, VH1 and HBO! It was exciting to have them grace the city of Atlanta with their longevity in the industry and their expertise of style to share with all the Atlanta fashion enthusiast!
This was The Soul Era, so there were plenty of models who showcased inspired pieces from the 60s + 70s that is definitely translated into modern fashion. Of course all of the pieces the models wore were from Macy’s! They say fashion always comes back in style with previous iconic era so these models did a great job showcasing how to rock the looks today!
There was also a contest held by the panelist to judge 3 up and coming novice fashion designers who created unique pieces for the themed event in honor of black history month and the Era of Soul. All of the designers had hand-picked models who walked down the audience aisle so that everyone can get a glimpse of each collection.
This young lady won the panelist contest and she definitely deserved it! She definitely nailed the African inspired themed, she said she got the concept from when in the 70s more people were going back to their roots in Africa with the African prints, dashikis and headwraps and came up with tailored designs that were eye catching for any runway! She also deserved to win for all the detail, she went all out with her models with even the facial tribal make up! Congrats!
Oh and here is little ol’ me after the event. By the way, it was my birthday so I made sure to get all dress and poof my fro just a little more to go with the Soul Era theme! This event was a great way to enjoy part of my birthday. I will be following up this post with more birthday fun so stay tuned for that!
Special Thanks to Ralph or e37photography for all of the amazing shots you seen on the blog today! He does amazing work so if you are interested in a photographer in the Atlanta area I highly recommend him! More shots from the event + more here.

I often see peoples outfits that have a little 70’s flare to them. I think fashion always tends to repeat itself.
Gosh I miss Atlanta. I went to fashion school there and we had fashion shows left and right. I actually used to work at the Macy’s and Rich’s in Lenox Mall. Good times.
