{Movie Review} Beyond The Lights Movie is Beyond Adorable! Wednesday 12 November, 2014

When was the last time you seen a really great love film filled with such passion and emotion? The Notebook? Love and Basketball? The creator of Love and Basketball, Gina Prince-Bythewood, has another smash movie for the romantic-drama lovers with this stellar film Beyond the Lights. To be honest I feel like the movie industry is making less romantic movies and feeding more into the romantic-comedy route in regards to film on the big screen, but this one will blow everyone away. We all deserve to see love examples on in theaters to reminds us how beautiful falling in love can be again. Sometimes we need to see love from another perspective, and this film flips it with love in the music industry.

Can you believe I got to see this movie twice? Yes I had an opportunity to pre-screen this movie twice before and it was that good I opted to see it again. Check out the synopsis, the trailer and my opinion of the film below!

TRAILER

Movie Synopsis: Noni Jean (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) is a hot new artist who has just won a Billboard Music Award without releasing an album and is primed for superstardom, but the pressures of success compel her to nearly end her life. She is saved by a young police officer, Kaz Nicols (Nate Parker), who has political ambitions. Drawn to each other, Noni and Kaz fall fast and hard, despite the protests of those around them who urge them to put their career ambitions ahead of their romance. But it is ultimately Kaz’s love that gives Noni the courage to find her own voice and break free to become the artist she was meant to be. – wikipedia

Beyond-the-Lights-movie-review-kiwi-the-beauty My Opinion: This movie was amazing from start to finish. Within the first five minutes of the film it was shock, awe and heartbreaking fear! I was already tearing up in the very beginning stages of a film, it was that intense and that caught my attention from the very beginning. Noni is a super popstar blowing up even before her first album drops and winning awards, she is definitely the “IT” girl but she is seeking more than the fame. Officer Kaz Nicols, an on duty to policeman guards Noni and ends up being her savior and soon form a budding relationship. Between the both of them they are both living two different lifestyles facing societal pressures. Both trying to obtain a certain status, while simultaneously losing themselves but finding each other. What I love about the film is that Noni is a star, but she showcases her human side and vulnerability and that’s the side Kaz falls in love with.

This move is about love, music and seeing beyond the limelight of everything. Everything that glitters isn’t gold, but that’s the beauty of it. Sometimes the glitz and glam isnt as beautiful as the real deal. I think the movie is definitely relatable in this modern society – where women in the industry are lust after for their body, hair, and sexy attire. Sex sells but what about love? Reality shows on tv showcases love from a destructive standpoint sometimes, but this movie reminds us that even in Hollyweird people deserve true love and affection. This movie will showcase how to love outside the limelight and you have to remove the layers to appreciate natural beauty and discover what love is all about.

Me + Nate Parker (star of Beyond The Light)

I was so excited to meet the sexy and dapper Nate Parker at the Atlanta pre-screening. Too bad he is happily married but he is very easy on the eyes and so humble and polite! He was even blushing when all of the ladies were swooning and cooing over him. He did an amazing job in the movie and he is going to be a big star in the industry real soon!

This was a super cute film with some amazing breakthrough actors and I highly recommend to see this movie! It also shows honesty on how the industry objectify women, oversexualize them, and make sex more of a standard than regular beauty. I have never seen a movie or a show truly be honest about the truth of the treatment and standards the industry has of women but this was a great portrayal of that. This film will also make you truly believe in the strength in love , no matter your status or lifestyle we all deserve it!
