The Old Guard 2: Theron and Thurman’s Immortal Showdown Arrives Wednesday 02 July, 2025

July of 2020, the world was on lockdown, and streaming movies became our escape. The Old Guard was a standout hit on Netflix, and now, five years later, we’re finally getting the sequel—and it’s a good one. The Old Guard 2 delivers all the thrilling action and emotional depth of the original, with the added bonus of a legendary face-off between Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman.

This sequel isn’t just about rehashing the original; it’s about building upon the incredible world that was created. The story picks up right where we left off, dropping us straight back into the lives of these immortal warriors. Quynh (Veronica Ngo), Andy’s (Theron) long-lost lover, emerges from centuries beneath the ocean, only to be discovered by Discord (Uma Thurman)—an ancient immortal who wants to use Quynh’s rage against Andy and humanity itself. It’s a complex setup, filled with betrayal, resentment, and the kind of emotional baggage that comes with living (and dying) for centuries.
But The Old Guard 2 is more than just another action movie. The story expands the universe significantly, introducing new, “forgotten” immortals (like Tuah, played by Henry Golding), adding another dimension to the drama. We see these near-mythological characters grappling with very human issues—love, betrayal, guilt, and regret—all seen through the unique filter of living for millennia.
Director Victoria Mahoney does a masterful job. The film is visually stunning, with breathtaking European locations and flawlessly executed CGI. The action sequences are intense and exhilarating, while the darkly humorous moments (like casually recovering from life-threatening injuries) provide a refreshing counterpoint to the high stakes. This is one of those movies that keeps you engaged and leaves you with something to chew on long after the credits have rolled.

And then there’s the main event: Theron vs. Thurman. These two iconic actresses bring their A-game, their on-screen presence commanding, and their fight scenes are nothing short of incredible. It’s the clash of titans we’ve been waiting for!
The Old Guard 2 might end on a cliffhanger, setting up a third movie, but it stands perfectly well on its own. This is a well-crafted sequel that expands the universe and the characters, delivering a story as deep as it is action-packed – lets await the trilogy!
