DISNEY PIXAR’S ONWARD TEACHES SIBLING SOUL SEARCHING [MOVIE REVIEW] Thursday 05 March, 2020

Disney is on a roll, literally with another fun Pixar film this year with Onward. I saw the film and I am excited to share my review.

TRAILER

Set in a suburban fantasy world, Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” introduces two teenage elf brothers (voices of Chris Pratt and Tom Holland) who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there. Two teenage elf brothers, Ian (Tom Holland) and Barley Lightfoot (Chris Pratt), go on an journey to discover if there is still a little magic left out there in order to spend one last day with their father, who died when they were too young to remember him. Introducing cast members Mel Rodriguez, who voices Officer Colt Bronco; Lena Waithe, who lends her voice to Officer Specter; and Ali Wong, the voice of Officer Gore. Directed by Dan Scanlon and produced by Kori Rae, “Onward” opens in U.S. theaters on March 6, 2020.

My Review

*Trigger Warning* If you have lost one of your parents, especially your father then be prepared for the high emotions you will get watching this film.

I thought this was a real touching movie about family, especially about siblings love. I have always love the dynamic of the older sibling leading and teaching the younger sibling. I really enjoyed Barley (Chris Pratt) and Ian (Tom Hollands) bro relationship. I also loved how Barley, who is the older brother, has a huge imagination that helped them go on this amazing journey. Usually it’s the older sibling who is serious and sometimes lead a cookie cutter life, but not Barley. Ian actually is more of the practical and more timid character.

It was fun to follow this movie, as there were different characters and fantasy figures that all lived in this fictional world. Some characters were blue, and some were other colors. Some of the characters were elves, others were pixies, centaurs, one eyed figures and more. All types of characters lived in great harmony together.

The most important aspect you will get out of this film is that family is everything. Sibling love is one of the best loves, and maybe sometimes we overlook that. The connection that Barley and Ian has is a story of togetherness, trust and unity. Most of all magic. This film is full of magic and the belief that magic is all around, you just have to tap into it and discover it. It is also a lesson on soul searching, and sometimes its best to soul search with your sibling.  It’s a fun film to follow, but yes also emotional in a good way.
