Exclusive Interview with Stars of A Wrinkle In Time: Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling #WrinkleInTimeEvent Monday 05 March, 2018

I had the interview of a lifetime on this Disney #WrinkleInTimeEvent trip. I knew it was a possiblity that I would be interviewing the stars, but when I got an email the week before saying the bloggers and I will be in the same room with Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Oprah Winfrey I lost it. How many people can say they interviewed Oprah Winfrey? The Queen of interviews and we got a chance to interview her?

So yes, on top of getting my selfie with her the day after this interview, I will always cherish we got to interfview Ms.Winfrey, Reese and Mindy for details on A Wrinkle in Time. Read more on my interview with Oprah, Mindy, and Reese starring as the Mrs. in Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time.

Before I get into the interview I want to say how humble and energetic Oprah is. Of course when she walked in the room we were all excited and nervous to be in her presence, but she instantly made us feel her loving energy. She was beaming, smiling and engaging with all of us! She is just how she is when you see her on tv. Such a people-person. I think she got a kick out of us because we welcomed them all with a round of applause. So the vibes in the room were high that day. I still cannot believe I am typing about my interview with Oprah!

Oprah started the conversation with us by complimenting us bloggers. She was in awe by saying, “Isn’t the blogging world fantastic?  Look at this new, this world we’re living in where everybody gets a voice and has power and authority to speak and have what you say mean something, it’s incredible really.

MRS.WHICH: Oprah Winfrey plays Mrs. Which, the leader of the three beings (with Mrs. Who and Mrs. Whatsit) that assist Meg, Calvin and Charles Wallace on their adventure. The wisest of the group, she gives the children the most advice and clues to help them find their father.

Oprah on her legacy leaving a mark on the children who will watch this film

I also knew when we were doing this film that there would be young girls like your daughter who would come along and they would see the Mrs.  And they would see me and they would say, what do you mean she had a talk show and that the imprint, the heart print that you eventually will leave in this world will come from what is said in this movie.  And so for your generation that I helped to raise there will be generations to come that will be raised on this story.

Presented in the way of, you know, through Ava’s vision who will only know me, us through through that.  So that I I could feel that when I was doing it, I could feel it when I was doing it, that wow there’ll be kids who’ll say, what you used to be on television? [LAUGHTER]  And pretty soon they’ll be saying what’s that, what’s television?

MRS. WHATSIT: Reese Witherspoon is Mrs. Whatsit, a motherly being who helps guide the children on their journey to find Dr. Murry along with Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling) and Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey).

Reese speaks on her favorite moment in the film

I know what my favorite was, when Storm looks up and she’s talking to her little brother who’s been possessed sort of by darkness and she says I deserve to be loved, I lost it I just lost it…I was like, we all deserve to be love. We all deserve to be- to tell our stories and be the the center, the lead of our own movie, the captain of our ship.  And we do not see that enough, we don’t see ourselves enough and I think a movie like this with a company like Disney getting behind it says so much to to young people.

What Reese secretly wants for Mindy

I honestly I have said to Mindy over and over again I would love Mindy to have a podcast where it’s called Mindy’s Minute. And she just talks, [APPLAUSE] I would listen to her talk about like the the news through her eyes any day of the week.

MRS.WHO: Mrs. Who can materialize as a corporeal being, but she finds it difficult to put ideas and thoughts into words; the most worldly of the trio, in the novel, she uses quotes from figures ranging from Shakespeare to Outkast to assist in expressing her thoughts.

Mindy’s thought on the theme of the film

Yeah I think just that the cast is so inclusive it is, I’ve never seen anything like that and I think that as a young woman I would have been- felt so much joy from watching it. And felt so ha- so much happiness from seeing that.  And as a dreamer I think was I would I I wouldn’t have to dream quite so hard to picture myself in- on screen.

Mindy’s request for everyone

I really want I want to know if there is any- if you guys recommend, if there’s any like Indian American bloggers who are mothers, because I feel like there’s a lot of stuff that you navigate through, like their old school parents when you’re child of immigrants, but also being a mom.

*Please in the comments name some Indian American (mommy) bloggers for Mindy to follow!

Oprah’s favorite quote from the film

My favorite is when Mrs. Which says to Storm, “do you know how many millions and millions of events had to occur as they did-In order for you to be exactly the way you are?” And I actually think that about my own life as a African American who, you know, came from, you know, slaves and that story that journey.  And I think about it for the life of everyone I meet. Everybody on the planet, I just think of what it took to get you here. I mean, when you just think about the possibility of that sperm hitting that egg [LAUGHTER] We’re talking to moms, you know what we’re talking about. I mean just the likelihood of that moment, that position, that, you know, that- [LAUGHTER] all of it and everything that had to take place up until that choice was made, on that moment, in that position.

RW : So that’s what you were doing last night [LAUGHS] constipation, sperms eggs, all the things…

OW : It’s true it’s true, so that’s why that’s my favorite. Because when I got to say that to her, I think there was a, there was a connection that she and I had that went beyond the characters, like how much had to happen in order for you Storm to be here in this moment having this lead role in this movie and us experiencing this together.  It was really pretty powerful.

Oprah on how its like working Mindy and Reese on set

OW: These are the talking-est girls you ever saw, oh my gosh they talk about everything.  What was on TV last night, what you didn’t see on TV, what, you know, who what they they and they know everybody.  They’re like in the cultural buzz.  I mean I actually called Gail and I said, oh my god.  [LAUGHTER]

RW : We’re like are we annoying you.

OW : I said oh my god, Reese and Mindy talk all the time. You need to get to this trailer, you would love being here, because they know everything about everybody.  I go they are walking People Magazines, they know everything that is happening with everybody all the time. .

MK : And you feel so- and part of me was like I felt so bad for Oprah, we get there at five thirty five o’clock in the morning, some you just want to b yourself  trailer, get your work done, she has nine different companies. But I’m sitting next to me and Reese is sitting next to me and it’s like that’s not going to happen.  [LAUGHTER]

OW : Not today.

MK : How many people do you know in this world who live in the United States who were personal friends with the late Nelson Mandela, not too many ro.  So I went and asked her questions, she might want her serenity, but I can’t give it to her. [LAUGHTER] I’m just going to ask you questions and then we’re going to pull you into our stupid conversations about nail polish. That’s just what’s going to happen.

Oprah relives the “You Get a Car” epic experience from one of her most memorable Favorite Things episode with blogger Natasha (one of the bloggers who was one of the car recipients)

Whenever we did favorite things, I always knew that it wasn’t about the thing except for that show were trying to get people who actually needed cars, okay, so that that was important.  But it’s never about the thing but you remember that moment, you remember that moment of exciting and magic that happens and for most of us we’ve never won anything. So just to be a part of that experience was fun.  It was the most nervous I’ve ever been because it- yes, because I was so excited and I wanted it to- I wanted people to be happy.

Oprah’s message to all of us, yes including you reading this.

Oprah: “I raised you all.”

And there you have it everyone. The most epic interview session I have had to date. I also want to add after this photo op, Oprah graciously shook hands with most of us bloggers and looked us in the eyes and told us thank you individually. That was extremely sweet of her. She is Oprah but she made it a point to connect to us on a human level. I will never forget this. Oh and see me sitting by her legs, so we are basically besties now Gayle you have to share!

Just magical, just like how magical a Wrinkle In Time will be. Please go support these ladies in this whimsical film like you never seen them before.
