ONE MUSIC FEST 2017 | Jill Scott, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Jidenna, MIGOS and More! Monday 18 September, 2017
Over 20,000 attendees traveled to experience ONE MusicFest, the Southeast’s largest urban music and arts festival in Atlanta, GA. Celebrating nearly a decade of incredible music and art, ONE Musicfest boasts its most diverse and dynamic lineup yet this year. Celebrating with a pre-festival concert, fans enjoyed performances by Thundercat, J.I.D, Ari Lennox and Noname at the Tabernacle Atlanta. Then ONE Musicfest took over Lakewood Amphitheater for 11 hours of nonstop music on two performance stages and three DJ stages. Headline artists included A-list superstars: Jill Scott, Yasiin bey (formerly known as Mos Def) in his farewell performance, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, 8Ball & MJG, Pastor Troy, Jidenna, Kaytranada, Too $hort, Tank and the Bangas, and more.
This year, ONE Musicfest set out in hopes to unify the community through music. ONE Musicfest is the only place to see this roster of incredible acts join together for ONE purpose – which was to witness a wide variety of sounds, from rock to hip-hop, electro, reggae, funk, disco, house, alternative and soul while having your musical senses stimulated. ONE Musicfest’s main focus was to create a roster of performers that would be enjoyable for multiple generations.
“There is a lack of representation for soul, progressive hip-hop, alternative and rock, represented under one roof, in the format of music festivals in Atlanta”, states J Carter, ONE Musicfest Producer. “We have noticed that while there are many pockets of individuals that share taste in the same music, rarely do you see them share in this together. ONE Musicfest was created with the idea of ‘music as the universal language’.
Too $hort, a pioneer in explicit rap and a old school favorite performed, and yes he still go it! Yes his lyrics are R-rated but people know his songs lyric for lyric and made his performance fun!
Ro James, a newbie in the R&B neo soul game. He just has a smooth persona and the R&B music than can put you to sleep or put you in the mood. Very sultry and sexy.
Jidenna had one of my favorite set for the festival! He is so energetic, talented, and yes fine! I am proud of him because two years ago he was a feature on Janelle Monae set, and now he headlines his own! Seriously, if you’ve never seen Jidenna perform he is a must see. His entire album “The Chief” is amazing and I guarantee you will be a fan after seeing him live and in action!
Atlanta’s very own MIGOS performed. After Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) gave “Bad and Bougee” an amazing song shoutout at this years Golden Globes, they blew up quickly to mainstream and the song has been topping the charts all year long. Of course they had to grace the stage and show love to their own city at ONE MUSIC FEST.
It was an honor to witness the last showcase concert of Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def. He is one of the legends of the conscious rap movement and now he is retiring. He decided ONE Music Fest would be his farewell performance. Its bittersweet to see him go, hip hop will definitely no be the same without him but his iconic music lives on and immortalized forever.
Jill Scott was the headliner for the night and you can just feel the soulful energy as soon as she grace the stage. From her fluffy fro to her colorful cape she had a psychedelic aphorediasic mood setting performance and it was a wonderful way to end the night! It got no better from Jilly from Philly!
Looks like an amazing concert. I will try to go next year.
I love music festival and the first time that I ever saw Jill Scott was at one. This one looks like so much fun. I need to come visit Atlanta in the summertime. You guys have it going on out there!
I would have had a ball there! Some Jill Scott, 8Ball & MJG and a little Too $hort? Yeah, I missed out.
I love the variety of music made available. I am sure the performances were FIRE!!!!!!
This had to be so much fun. I love a good concert with all my favorite acts. I hope to see Jidenna one of these days.
A few of my friends went and loved it! I so would have loved to have been able to see Tank and The Bangas!
I can’t remember when I last been to a concert! This looks like an awesome lineup.
I love me some Jill Scott and I’ve seen her in concert before. I was introduced to Tank and the Bangas at Essence Fest last year. I so dig their style.
I am here for Yassin my former bedstuy neighbor and Miss Jill Scott of course. How did I not know about this?1? I would have definitely gone.
I’m not big on concerts, but this is one that I would have loved to attend if I was in Atlanta.
I’m sad we’ll never get to see Mos Def perform again. He’s definitely a unique force in hip-hop and will always be one of my all time favorites.
Wow! Yep I’m jealous! That line up was serious! I did see Ro James at a summer festival here in MD. But I would have loved to see Jidenna, I heard he killed! And Mos Def always has my heart! Love him!
I have never heard of this concert before but this was a great line up. Im surprised to hear the Most Def is retiring. I’m wondering what he plans to do next. I have never seen Jill Scott in concert but I hear that she is amazing. Glad you had fun!
Fun! Wow, Too Short is still out there? I haven’t seen or heard him in years.
TOO SHORT!!!! I would’ve loved going to this event! My husband LOVES music so I have to check this out so maybe we can go next time!
I’ve been wanting to go to a big music fest like this for a few years. One MusicFest is definitely on the list.
It looks like you all had an amazing time. It’s been a minute since I’ve attended one but when I do I always have a good time. You all had a good line up. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like such fun times! I would’ve love to see Jidenna perform!
Music must keep people young – these artists don’t look like they have aged a day! Looks like a great time was had by all…
What a fun event to attend. My girlfriends and I try to attend at least one music festival a year.
I would to have been able to attend this festival! The musical talent line up is right up my alley. I’ve always wanted to see Mos Def and Jill Scott live. Great review!
I would have loved this show, especially seeing Jilly from Philly and Mos Def. I wonder what he’ll do now that he’s retiring from music. I hope he does more films because he’s amazing on screen.
My kind of concert so many legends! Jill Scott always delivers a show I love her music.
This seems like a huge turnout. I love going to these types of stage shows.
Jill Scott is one of the few artists I really want to see that I haven’t yet seen in concert. Sounds like a great lineup!
